Campbell's grading is completely subjective and seems to be based on a whim. He doesn't like when you disagree in class and will dock points for it. He also is extremely traditional and picky with writing, and has absolutely no interest in including diverse viewpoints or historical moments not from straight white men. Lectures are also boring.

Don't take any class with this professor. The class content is very repetitive, yet he holds you the entire class period. His grading makes no sense, it's however he feels about you as a student. In office hours he's just a bully. Don't try to disagree with him on anything because he will tell you are wrong and give you a bad grade

Campbell expects you to read and participate in class, but he doesn't help outside of class. The only feedback and guidance is feedback on papers. Take lots of notes!!! If you have questions regarding lecture points then he will just refer you to the readings and your notes, he won't answer your questions. He's worthless in office hours.

i was surprised this prof had such a bad rating on here! He is so nice and adorable. His class is mostly just discussion based. He is very engaged with the class and always always always responds to emails. He really is a great guy. I hope I can take another class with him.

Terrible professor! Boring, tough grader, you need to read for every class, books are mandatory, poor instructions, long classes, loves critiquing students, attendance is mandatory. WORST PROFESSOR OF THE COMMUNICATION DEPARTMENT AT AU!

Assigns long papers on minor topics. Tough grader because he thinks AU has a "GPA Increase" problem. You can put in all the work and effort in the world and still barely pass. Participation can only hurt you not help you. Gives a 10 page research paper that is impossible to get more than a C+ on. Sometimes you'll get a B- on a grade but thats rare

He takes feedback very well. He asks students to evaluate him and he really takes it to heart. Taken 2 classes with him(COMM 360 & COMM 280), wish I could take every class with him. He gives you a very detailed syllabus on how to write his papers, follow his instructions, get an A. Hes also very engaging. Very easy class if you participate.

His teaching style is not for everyone - I took a class in which he taught from his own book, which made some class discussions uncomfortable. That being said, Campbell gives wonderful lectures and is such a nice dude, and I learned a lot. I would recommend this class.

Horrible. His class consists of him moderating a discussion about his book. The class centers around his book about the "top ten" media myths. His paper grading is subjective, I think he wrote more comments about what was wrong with my paper than I had written on the paper itself. A pompous man. Do not take.

Do not take this class. He is an ok guy but he grades your paper like you are at PhD-level... this is a GNED course, right? The little mistakes are big mistakes to him. His class centers around 5 phrases: juicy, tenacious, junk-food journalism, complexity-avoidance and media-driven myth. Take as pass/fail if you must.

Professor Campbell is friendly and genuinely interested in his students education, but is a tough grader. His class is difficult, especially the Library of Congress assignment, so stay on top of things. He gives plenty of feedback and plenty of editing on papers (it is however questionable if implementing these changes will help your grade).

Fun prof with loads of experience in his field. Very open to feedback about his course. Lots of VERY INTERESTING guest speakers. Even though it was an 8:30 block, i looked forward to it! Highly recommended.
