Comment:
Dr. Harp was a decent professor. Lecture coverage is pretty much irrelevant to exam questions so make sure you read everything there is to know from the textbook. Difficult essay/paper grader. Spent too many hours studying for exams and it still wasn't good enough.

His test questions are fair. If you study the lectures and the book you should do fine. The paper isn't graded super strictly, but talk to him about it.

Harp is great until the second half of the semesters and his lectures get more erratic and confusing. My mistake was not carefully reading the textbook but I had other more important classes. Overall not bad for this class but don't expect to get an A.

Harp gives everyone a B. It doesn't matter if you worked your butt off and did pretty well (or thought you did) you and the person who didn't try will both get a B. His lectures are also long. And I was bored almost to tears in every class.

He is a solid choice for mod civ. He's upfront about his expectations. You have to do the reading to do well on the quizzes. His lectures can be boring sometimes, but I thought it was interesting material. His tests have essays, but he gives you the possible prompts beforehand.

Boring to listen to, but his quizzes were easy. The test and essay were more difficult. It sounded like he gives lots of Bs.

Easily the drollest professor on campus, his razor wit is belied by his deadpan delivery. Watch for it. Revel in it. You will get a B, b/c everyone gets a B, & b/c he has better things to do than make you feel good about your brain. Life will go on, & with a bit of humility you'll be the better for his input. He is what your boss will be postgrad<3

I like Harp because he's probably the most objective grader in the history department. Attendance is taken each class. If you get below a B in any of Harp's classes you aren't trying and if you get above a B you're a prodigy. Don't expect a lot of help, he'd rather be doing research for his next book on an obscure 1800s theologian than talking to u

One of my favorite professors at GCC. Yeah, he's a little dry, but he's there to teach you, not entertain you. Tests and papers are hard but fair, and the quizzes are generally a boost to your grade. Great guy.

Stay away from Harp unless you are looking for some serious nap time in the middle of the day. The dude is nice enough but his class is boring as all get out and his quizzes tests and papers are unclear and deceptively hard. Also watch out for his jokes that Im pretty sure he practiced in front of the mirror before class and his psalm reading voice

Clearly a very educated man. I thought his tests were fairly difficult, but it's probably because I devoted minimal time or interest to this class since I had so much to do for my other classes. Lectures were sometimes boring, but you can tell he's a very caring and helpful individual.

Takes history of ideas approach. Well prepared and clear, well-organized. Non-history majors don't like the high grading standards, but you can learn a lot.

While he knows his facts, he is tedious and slow. Very idealistic about professor-teacher relationship ("our journey", etc.). Not too helpful and tests on impractical knowledge. He quizzes on the textbook chapters--easy if you do the reading.

There are far better professors out there for this class. Simply put it is very difficult to pay attention in class as he finds a way to make history dull. Others in the history department are excited to teach and give galvanizing lectures. Dr. Harp does not.

Comment:
Lectures are slightly scattered and boring. The weekly quizes are easy if the reading is done although, some of the reading is difficult. He is forgetful and assigns work/ test details last minute.
