He doesn't really give good feedback on paintings. He will often tell you something is unfinished but won't always explain what you need to do to "finish" your painting. He also doesn't really teach anything. I learned everything on my own through experience and tips from other classmates. He rambles a lot. He is pleasant on his "good days". Easy A

The class is not difficult and attendence is not mandatory but it is still a good idea to come on lecture day to get feedback on your work. It's easy to get a good grade but some paintings Walter will absolutely hate and won't give feedback on how to fix the problem. He lectures a lot, he talks to much about talking to much. The TA is a God send.

This professor is absolutely terrible. He is vague, teaches you nothing, and lectures you on pointless things for most of the class. When it comes to the actual critiques, he is extremely black or white. If it is not exactly up to his standards (WHICH HE DOESN'T SPECIFY EVER) he will give you an incomplete.

Great teacher. Funny. Understands marketing and future beyond school work. Don't write him off. You can learn a lot from him.

Get ready to have ultimate freedom in a class. Get a sense of humor, or learn to fake a laugh. Get on his good side early! He gives away tons of materials for free! Take his suggestions for marketing later, he knows what he is talking about, even if it sometimes sounds like rambling. Do the work and you will be fine!

I don't understand people rating this class who have no interest at all in improving their technique? If you feel like you have a set style you have no intention of changing and you want a funny teacher, take this class. If you want to actually improve and learn new techniques I wouldn't recommend him. It's 20th cent art history but with painting

If you're looking to develop your own style and learn how to market your art he's a wonderful professor. If your artwork doesn't look like you put any effort into it: it will be reflected on your grade. He gives you plenty of opportunities to get an A, it's on you to put in the extra effort.

All the assignments require copying the masters. He doesn't force you to learn to paint like he does, like many art instructors. You will learn a lot from this class, but you will do it through your own discovery and find your own style in the process! If you want to be an artist take Gaudnek, if you want to be an student, take someone else.

In retrospect i realize what Walter taught me: if your looking to learn painting technique in college...stop studying art NOW. u should know how to paint a still life already, especially b4 taking Walter. if u haven't found ur style yet, defer studio until u have. You may very well end up with an A, but ur already way behind in the real art world.

Easy A class, but don't bother taking it if you want to learn anything. He lets you paint whatever you want which is nice but his grading system is kind of arbitrary. 97% of the class time will be spent on confusing rambling about God knows what with 3% being actual worthwhile critique. Only take him if Carla's class if full!

Easy to get an 'A' but not a class to take if you actually want to learn. In Intermediate Painting, he lets you paint whatever you want. BUT, if he doesn't like your style, you'll have to re-do all of your paintings. It's frustrating because he doesn't look at the quality, he just looks at if he likes it or not.

Inspirational Professor who truly has a passion for art!! Gaudnek drives almost two hrs to come to UCF to teach every week which just shows how much he cares. For students who are willing to learn from him, he gives them the world. Best painting class ever!

I took three classes with him or more. Best teacher ever. Assuming that you have a passion for what you do. There are people who get frustrated there as well, since he lets you discover everything by yourself and does not serve knowledge on the plate.

Wonderful Professor who really cares about painting and his students works. He is not going to hold your hand and show you how to paint but he will give you useful feedback and ultimately make you confident in yourself as an artist which is what most people need. My favorite class at UCF by far!

Gaudnek gives everyone As and lets you paint whatever you want. Great if you need a class that is easy, but don't expect to learn anything. He is often offensive in his discourse with females and never gives any worthwhile feedback. Classes often start with pointless rambling and complaints about his ratemyprofessors ratings

I took Gaudnek for beginning painting and have mixed reviews Pros- lets you find your own style as a painter, gives you LOTS of creative freedom, teaches you how to market your work Cons- doesn't actually teach you anything about painting, doesn't critique your work. I got an A in the class and learned a lot, but all that i learned i taught myself.

I have had him for two semesters, he is the best painting professor I could have ever asked for! He has a modern approach to teaching instead of an outdated style, his teaching style has allowed me to unravel as a painter and he always encourages his students to find their own unique style in painting. He helps us recognize art in fashion & music.

My favorite class of the semester. Gaudnek has a unique teaching style that some students just cannot handle. Those students need more structure and should go to someone else. If you like to have a free style of painting where you do what you want to do, then choose this professor! Much like the real world!
