He is awful and disrespects students. He uses the online textbook, but if you read them during classes, he will call you out rudely and never hear you explain. He will also refuse to answer your questions because of that. Lectures are full of useless proofs without actual useful theories. Be prepared to learn by yourself. Avoid this guy.

Had for two classes - okay if it's a class with established curriculum, but avoid for special topics courses as he was very unprepared when I took one with him. Anger issues and does not respect students. I didn't think so at first, then I saw it in person more than once, and directed at me. I love math too, 3.5 GPA - be careful.

Had him for MA2071 and found him run then. Don't get me wrong, he loves math, but he also carries a massive chip on his shoulder against students. Had him again for MA4891, and he was worse. He literally only taught on the first day, after that he had us teach ourselves because it's "the best way to learn". Angry, disrespectful, and a bad teacher.

Attended two of his classes and he was very unprepared on both. Presentation of topic was haphazard. Didn't grade/return homework by the time our exams came back, we had no idea of his expectations. Most disrespectful professor I've come across - a number of my friends with >3.9 GPA share the opinion.

The people complaining about Martin are intellectual midgets. This guy sparks an interest in math. GREAT professor. I'm one of those kids that habitually skips lectures if they suck. I went to his lectures because he would regularly blow my mind. Going to lecture = fun and informative. If you get disrespected, you probably deserve it. Lrn2math.

Having taken LinAlg several times, Prof Martin was easily the best teaching I had for the subject. Don't get me wrong, he makes it difficult and forces you to fully understand the theory behind what you're doing. But in the long run, I got more out of his lectures than any other math prof at WPI (except Tang).

This guy is awful! he teaches solely on proofs and theories so no one understand what he's talking about. Gets WAY to excited about matrices and the tests are not at all what he lectures on. Has no respect for students and calls you stupid in lecture. do not take his class.

Possibly the most enthusiastic professor at WPI and tries to extend that enthusiasm to students. Drops lowest 2 homework grades, and holds review sessions 2 days before exam, helping the students run it themselves. Hard work and thinking is required for most homeworks, but exams are easier, and he is always willing to assist. Fantastic professor.

Please ignore the negative comments below. Prof. Martin does respect every student. His TA is also great too! Each week he gives one assignment with 5 problems in it(not easy), however, he only counts the best 5 homework grades over 7. He extends office hour prior to exam...he is one of the most enthusiatic prof. in WPI.

Incrediblilty difficult teacher. However, does care about students (he did hold an office hour on a Saturday morning). If you were VERY strong in math, you'll love this guy. However, if you are not, just make sure you do the reading (he gives pop quizzes) and attend office hours, because he's pretty helpful there.
