Best professor at the University of Texas. Doesn't put up with bs and doesn't talk bs. He has high standards, so people who don't like high standards don't like him. You get what you put into the class. Around 20% A's.

Dr. Patt is a pretty great lecturer and his class is challenging and engaging. The main downside to him is that he isn't very personable and can intimidate students especially if you try to ask questions. However, he makes sure to hire TAs who know their stuff, which makes asking questions easier. Overall, good professor and great class. 4/5

I absolutely loved this class. Patt is one of the best professors I've ever had. The caveat is that he can be intimidating and people often get discouraged from asking questions (because he'll roast you). His lectures go slow and are usually easy to understand and the assignments are very challenging.

Despite what you may hear, Dr. Patt is a fantastic professor. He obviously cares a lot about his work, and he makes things interesting. The class is very hard though. Although, unlike many engineering classes, it's fair. If you put in the time to learn the material, you'll do well, but you really do need to work for it.

Don't ever take this class or else you will deeply regret it. He is not meant to be a professor, he is disorganized and confusing. His lectures are almost useless when it comes to taking the exams as the exam have nothing to do with lectures.

He really cares about his students and genuinely loves teaching. Don't ask questions in class (or through email) unless you want to get roasted. A truly inspirational man. Make sure you go to his free-for-all lecture!

Do the labs, go to lectures, and by the time the final comes, you'll be ready. Textbook is *optional* depending on learning style. The material is hard and studying only gets you part of the way there. The tests are like logic puzzles and are mentally PAINFUL. But somehow fun. Patt is caring and inspirational. He wants everyone to succeed.

If you really want to learn and have a good foundation on the topics, take this class without ANY hesitation; if not, avoid him at all cost; I have seen the 306 exam from other professors taught 306, those exams are like kindergarten baby quiz compared to his. It is not that easy to get a good grade from Patt as you thought.

This professor wrote the textbook, so if you want to learn the course material the best you can, get him as your 306 professor. If you just want an easy semester, get another professor and study with students in Patt's class. He is interesting to talk to and I recommend going to office hours. I only needed the textbook for the appendix.

Dr. Patt can be quite tough, but he is an amazing professor who cares for his students. Tests are definitely much harder, but once you're done you come out with an extremely solid foundation for future courses. Looking back, so much useful material covered in just one semester. I really enjoyed his course would definitely take him again.

He's not for everyone. He can come off as abrasive, or maybe just a bit too blunt. But he genuinely cares for each of his students, and takes a lot of time in each lecture to make sure that everybody's questions are taken care of thoroughly. He also has a load of stories and jokes. Personally, I think he's the best professor I've ever had.

Pretty great professor. teaches clearly and explains stuff well. He basically invented the course Intro to Computing and he wrote the text book for it (good book as well). It's your best bet to learn some basic assembly language and learn the general architechture and innerworks (down to the transistor) of a computer. One of my favorite classes.

Dr. Patt is a great teacher. He sometimes picks on students who are asleep or asks dumb questions and can be intimidating, but he truly wants you to learn. He's much more personal in office hours and makes himself available as much as possible. The tests will be quite hard (to knock cocky freshmen down a notch), but it's a doable class.

Great professor, teaches freshmen intro to computing really well, you can go in having never seen a computer, and if you pay attention and want to learn you'll come out understanding the basics. You'll definitely be challenged and have to put in work for this class.

Professor Patt is always willing to help and answer questions, so if you are confused you should definitely go to office hours. The class can be hard, but study groups can help a lot on the problem set and you can ask any of the TA's about the programming labs.
