chem is my worst subject, i failed (got 40%) on the midterm. However i worked very hard and got 74% on the final, which boosted my Chem101 mark to a C lol. Apelblat is a wonderful prof, very clear and funny. He over-hypes the final which is good.. otherwise I might have not worked as hard as I did. he has chicken-scratch writing tho

He is an amazing prof. His final would be really hard so make sure you work hard. He is really helpful in office hours. In order to do great jusy follow every piece of advice he gives in class. Also make sure you understand every thing taught in class. He will say before exams," I cannot ask everything but I can ask anything".

Very thorough and absolutely explains all concepts that you need on exams, practice questions reflect exam material pretty much to a cinch. The only area to be desired is his monotone voice, but he tries to make lectures as engaging as possible with cartoons and benign sarcasm

He's really kind and felt bad for not knowing all 400 of his students' names. He gives part marks in exams. His midterm was easy and the final was pretty hard. Like, not crazy though as I've heard from others. I don't know. Just pay attention and listen. I didn't do that though...

SO GOOD. Responds to emails fast & is helpful during office hours. Lectures are awesome, I actually learned during them (unlike all my other classes...) Final is a tough one but it's curved so it doesn't really matter. Looking back, he's the BEST prof I've had in uni so far. Would recommend & take again. The man makes you love chem & him.

This guy is the BEST prof there is. Yes, his exams are tough-- but it doesn't matter because the class is adjusted (so don't worry about tough exams). I'd rather have a low average than a high (Like Jensen or Sai Yui). Yoram's notes & lectures are amazing, you genuinely learn from him whereas in Jensen's & Sai Yiu's you memorize problem sets.

His lectures are organized, and he sticks to the topic instead of wasting a lot of time like Jensen. However, Apelblat teaches a very easy class. chem 105 is light on math, so he artificially makes it more difficult, by leaving out information and using dirty tricks on exams. On practice exams he stated they would be nothing like the final.

Comment:
Took Dr. Apel last semester for Chem 101 . No doubt that he was very well organised regarding his notes. Quizzes were hard, midterm was easy and final was very hard compared to the midterm. Final had a lot of conceptual questions but still managed to get a B (above av). Prof gets boring in his monotonous voice during the lecture .

After Chem 101 with Dr. Apelblat, I changed my major to Chemistry. Apelblat encourages both traditional textbooks and modern online notes for studying. May seem intimidating at first, but he spends his office hours with an open door to anyone that tries. Very well respected, and his respect motivates his students to do their best. Attend lecture.

Best choice out of all the first year chemistry professors. Explains things in a clear and concise manner, and brings some levity to the class when he can. Very fair with marking, and is willing to hear concerns regarding the marking done on exams. 5/7 would take again.

Apelblat was definitely a professor that wanted you to try your hardest to push your limits - but if you were willing to go through that effort, he would be there to help you. Make sure you do the problem sets and some of the readings, as well as go over the practice midterm and final for a very clear idea of what the tests are like!

Apelblat has very structured notes to study from and his lectures, although dry, are helpful in understanding the concepts as he explains them rather well. His voice is monotone, but I got over it soon enough. Take his class if you're willing to put in the work for a good grade and an actual understanding of chemistry.

Yoram is a great prof! Quite possibly the cutest man ever! Chem 101 is not an easy course, you need to work for your marks- Yoram is a fair prof. All of his notes are posted online which is great. Lab marks will boost your marks so don't worry about having to switch out. He's one of my fav profs by far! WOULD TAKE AGAIN!
