No extra credit. Doesn't drop lowest exam score (many prof.'s do, this one doesn't). Assigns every problem in book for homework (not every other odd, not every odd: every. single. one). Most importantly - he doesn't teach concepts, he instructs rules. No learning of WHY in his class, only learn WHAT. You must teach yourself and endure the homework.

I took a summer semester calc1 course. I will admit mostly my fault I wont pass, but he could stand to improve his teaching style to do more than solve random problems on the board. If you didn't understand and learn anything in the lecture like me. Your essentially teaching yourself after class. Better explanations and showing work would be better

Prof Alwash expects you to know your stuff and be prepared. His grading is tough, there are quizzes every other day, and the tests are very difficult. If you choose to take this class, GET A TUTOR I guarantee you will need it. He's not a very nice guy so don't think being friendly will help you. Do your work, study hard, and its POSSIBLE to pass.

He won't help you even if you ask him many times and will eventually say, "Algebra, or Trig" . Pop quizes every other day. Checks hw daily. Sloppy lectures. I got yelled at for asking questions in his class. Every time he did a problem on the board it would take up most of the class time, barely have enough time to teach the next lecture. DONT TAKE

Math 115, alwash is a good teacher, he has his own system of teaching, as long as you do all the homework assigned you will pass. understand the concepts really well. go to tutoring, and you should be good. do the home work and study days before tests. make sure to see him in office hours because its worth it. one on one tutoring with him is KEY!!!

It's calculus. If math is not for you so don't blame him. You need to work for this class. He helps so much during the office hours . The program is a little bit hard than what we met before but this is calculus. I didn't really work enough so for that I didn't get the A. You will have a quizz after you finish every section.

The most basic guideline to his class. Do all the homework, and more problems if you can when he assigns it. Understand the material. Then you should be more than fine. There are tutors in the library that are more than capable to helping. Best of luck, he's the best I've taken. It will be hard, but it's Calc. You should know what you're getting in

Dr. Alwash is a very kind professor willing to help his students however his accent makes him difficult to understand along with his poor teaching style. Not many people pass his class and he does not offer extra credit. He is a tough grader and checks homework at random. I would not take him again

Being my first hybrid class this course was amazing. The material was clearly presented and very well explained. The instructor would work out the solutions of the questions on the quizzes to ensure that students know where they went wrong was able to fix things that needed work.

If math is not your thing, then don't take this class. The professor should not have to explain stuff like PEMDAS to you. You'll find other educators of higher math will be just as impatient with those sort of questions. Go over the problems until you know the material. You're in college now! I wrote a different rating but I somehow got signed out.

Just DO NOT take him unless you have a strong background in Math. The placement test qualified me to take Calc but I ended up with a W because of how hard it was. He explains assuming that you know the stuff, all sections are hw, tests are too hard,no slides or study guides or E.C or anything! You basically go to class to watch him solving problems

His quizzes and tests are not hard, you don't need a calculator to solve them. His heavy accent makes it hard to understand him and he can be rude sometimes. I honestly don't recommend him.

. I took his online class this spring, 2014. I like the fact that he is clear and organized on giving instructions. But, there is not extra assignments or any chance to get a better grade . tests are in class and required to show your work, I tried hard and got a B. To got A in this class you should b a math genius

I admit Mr. Alwash speeds through the material and works out problems on the board with his quick mental math strategies, but he is a witty sweetheart that doesn't get frustrated when you patiently ask for assistance. I audit his class everyday, btw, he's hilarious & I love his accent.

Worst math teacher ever. NO LECTURE OR DEFINITIONS. Solves random problems on the board. Skips steps using his mental math with no explanations. Review and new lessons are introduced this same style. HW is that ENTIRE section of a chapter per day with a quiz the day after. I did well because I attended Castro's class at night too. BTW, I love math.

Horrible Teacher. His accent is thick but that is not what makes him a bad teacher. in my opinion its how he sets up his math equations. Most of the time i was in the class his equations or explanations did not match. Take at your own risk.
