Toughest class I've taken but is to be expected considering it is physics. He is a terrible teacher and communicator. Couldn't learn a thing in the lecture which is a shame considering some stuff is really hard to understand on your own. Grades really strict but generously decided to curve it at the end.

He's a genuinely nice guy, but like others have said, a poor lecturer- rather monotonic and he focuses entirely on proofs, derivations etc rather than any of the concepts behind the equations. However he does allow cheat sheets and most of the test problems are similar to the homework.

Dr. Faridi is the classic example of don't judge a book by its cover. He seems standoffish at first but he is hilarious. All of these bad comments are just people that didn't study or didn't try. He is not there to hold your hand. You have to do the homework and read the book. He is very generous if he sees that you are trying. I def. recommend.

He makes a bad first impression. You're an adult now, deal with it. If you don't do the homework, you will NOT pass, but he doesn't collect and grade the homework. He gives the impression of not caring, but as the semester goes on it's obvious that he does care greatly. Do the work and attend the lectures, all the tools to pass are there.

My tips for succeeding: reproduce the sample problems in books and his lectures, then watch the solutions of the homework (on the syllabus) and find other similarly doable problems in the book. DO THE HOMEWORK OR AT LEAST LOOK AT THE SOLUTION AND REPRODUCE IT ! He doesn't collect them, so a lot failed the class. Problems are similar to homework.

Professor Faridi's an incredibly knowledgeable professor, however he lacks in the delivery department. His lectures are INCREDIBLY easy to wander off of, he often reads over proofs for a majority of the class and sparks almost no interest. He's an easy grader, and allows cheatsheets for all tests (fairly standard in college physics courses)

His lectures consist of proving the equations that you'll have to use during the exams, but you'll have to pay attention to what the equation actually is, because he's just going to keep going to the next. And as far as the actual concept behind the equations that will for the most part elude you. Be prepared to have to have to study on your own.

Faridi "lectures" by doing problems on the board, and he expects a student to know what to do beforehand. It was difficult to follow along, as there is some later calculus 2 & 3 required. I had to learn by myself, reading from the book and looking at the solution guide. The tests are difficult, seeing as how the average is 70%, but he curves.

I took phy185, 280 and 285 with Professor Faridi. The tests are a little bit tough, but he curves a lot. He is a very nice guy, and I really like his class.

Professor Faridi is something else people. He's pretty funny, but also difficult at the same time. For the first part of the semester, he was using power points and the second part was on the white board. He's generous with his grading, but it's inconsistent. Many people might get the same answer, but only few will get credit. Need the book

He is doing a great help for CSU and UC professors by weeding off "would be" transfer STEM graduates who expected Physics to be like their grade 2 Arts class! Half the class has dropped because they realized that its not like their Grade 2 Arts class! Keep up the good job!

For people who are lazy and wants the instructor to give them an easy time, Dr. Faridi is NOT the instructor!! If you really like Physics and like a challenging learning experience take Dr. Faridi, one of the best Physics instructors at OCC. He is really tough and makes you learn the material by yourself which is SO IMPORTANT for our future.

PHYS 285 is the toughest Physics course at OCC and who else better than Dr. Faridi to teach it! He gives responsibility to students to learn, where his role is just as a facilitator. I really like his way of teaching which gives me more pressure to succeed! I am sure I will do well at UCI with the training I get from Dr. Faridi's teaching!!!

He didn't write anything on the whiteboard until week 10, instead reading verbatim off pre written notes. Then he derived a few formulas, but he never worked out a single example problem in class. Waste of time; 1/2 the class attends lecture. No homework, but you have to read/learn everything yourself. The worst Physics professor I've ever had.

Professor Faridi is really funny and hilarious, he is an average teacher nonetheless very competent in the subject material. You need to work hard to get a good result!

I just saw a very negative comment for Dr. Abbas for his PHYS 110 class, and thought of putting this straight! You could not ask for a more organized and precise professor for such a demanding subject! Trust me, he is the nicest guy and will go out of his way to help you but the only chance you have passing this class is if you're not lazy.

Great and organized person! He is probably the best full time faculty that OCC Physics has after Professors Drum and Guerra. He lectures pretty much on what he will give on the tests. Gives us a lot of practice test, homework are a lot but most of them are interesting and helpful. Generous curve! And highly recommended for engineering majors.
