If you love yourself don't take this class. The professor is HORRIBLE and is VERY unorganized. He didn't even tell us when the final was, we were left guessing. Made us buy the book and I didn't look at one page of it. Only grade is attendance and group essay and no grades are posted attending was difficult because of how much I hated the professor

His talks are fantastic and engaging as their own object (though they have often have nothing to do with the readings) and besides a project and a mid-term essay (which also aren't directly dependent on the reading), participation is the only grade. He encourages our participation, and with his gracious, amicable attitude, makes it easy to do so.

With age comes wisdom, the man is good. I thought he would not be as good, but he proved me wrong with his sharp mind and deep understanding of issues in the Middle East.

He cares about his students. He has a lot of knowledge to bring to the class. Overall, I wish we discussed more in detail, but I did enjoy the class.

Professor Hechiche is very accomplished and is a wealth of knowledge on the Middle East and the United Nations. However, he is extremely easily sidetracked, has no organization in his lectures at all, and most of the time either lets the class debate about topics totally unrelated or makes us watch movies. I learned everything from the book.

A somewhat difficult accent (Arabic/French), ok if you are sitting near the front & can hear. He's had a long career & has an in-depth grasp of world political events & ideologies. He seems to be a leftist (especially the text -which is needed for exams). But encourages class discussions of other viewpoints, and doesn't penalize if you don't agree.

Very biased grading that does not follow the syllabus. Doesn't run the class objectively and penalizes you if he doesn't agree. Was excited about taking the class based off the topic but the professor made it unenjoyable. Will never take a class he teaches again.

My second course with him. You don't need extra credit projects to earn an A. Participate, study for tests, do the readings, and write good papers. He's a nice person and very knowledgeable, though he does digress during lectures. The GA grades papers and handles online communication. Two tests, two short papers, and participation are the grades.

GO TO HIS OFFICE HOURS: you're basically guaranteed an A. Participate in class. Study for the tests--they're not difficult but cover a wide range of topics (you'll wanna know geography). The projects or papers are "optional" but you won't do well in the class unless you do them. Class has 2 tests, attendance/participation & opt paper/project.

The whole semester is a group project plus a paper, midterm and final. The professor is not helpful at all when it comes to clarity or grades because the TA is responsible for all of that and the he hardly ever replies to emails and is never in class. Would not recommend if you have no prior knowledge of the middle eastern problem.

Let's be honest: His lectures ramble on and on and is too overzealous when it comes to talking to students. You might as well not bring a backpack to class, or, if you can, read the book during class. The worst part is that attendance is mandatory and can ruin your grades if you miss class. Take it at a time you will always make and bear through.

I am halfway done with the course and I felt the need to rate him poorly. He is terrible at communicating with students, non-existent online presence, and everything else is done by his assistant- who takes a week to respond to emails. Grades take weeks to get posted. Extra credit paper is 15 pgs with no input from professor. DO NOT TAKE HIM!

Your entire grade is based off the midterm and the final. There is no exam review to help for the tests. If you want to pass, you have to really get in his face with the participation.

I wish I would've known ahead of time that people specifically avoid taking this professor's classes. He doesn't explain ANYTHING, and your grade in his course is anyones guess. My advice,Attend EVERY lecture (even if he just spends the entire hour talking about himself ) and take on every single"extra credit" (but actually REQUIRED!) assignment

Dr. Hechiche is a very knowledgeable professor and it shows. Attendance, and keeping up with your textbook, self teaching, is essential to passing. This professor spends lectures talking about himself rather than the Middle East. Unfortunately this was my worst experience with a professor thus far at USF .

This course should be titled "Abdelwahab Hechiche: From WWII to Present". He talks about himself the entire time. He is an intelligent and charismatic man however, that doesn't mean he should be an instructor. This is a ME Studies course but, he focuses on PalestineIsrael conflict which is a fraction of the ME. This is an easy worthless A.

You will not learn about the ME. He only cares about IsraelPalestine which is just a fraction of MENA. He is a very knowledgeable and charismatic person but it comes off as holding the class hostage and cramming his life story from WWII to Present down your throat the entire time. Not on the test!!! Read the book and turn in the papers "A+"

Prof. Hechiche is my favorite professor at USF. He uses videos along with his lectures. To pass the test you have to read the book. He has lived an amazing life, and it is fascinating to hear about. You have to attend class and read, and if he gives you the option to do a project, DO IT!

If you want to be self-taught, take this class. Hechiche rambles about his life and doesn't get into much discussion about the actual subject matter. You MUST show up to class daily because he takes attendance everyday, which would be fine if I was actually learning in class.

Dr. Hechiche is an extremely helpful professor. Attend office hours if you have difficulty. He conducts his course like a graduate seminar. That means that student investment is needed to sustain the integrity of the course. He is a cultured individual with much knowledge. Take advantage of it, ask for guidance and he will not disappoint.
