I can tell he's a great professor, but this term he left for weeks and a lot of fundamental material was missed. Never made an effort to backtrack and clarify. Read the older book he lists. I studied for 4 days from it for the final and went from a 35% to a B+. His work test/HW are very reasonable, you just need to know what's going on.

Comment:

Very hard class. But that was more due to the material than the teacher. He has a strong accent, but is very helpful if you ask questions. He taught a bit too fast early on, but after most people did terribly on the 2nd midterm, he seemed to slow down and teach a lot better. Good professor, just be prepared to spend A LOT of time here...

Hauping Liu is an amazing teacher. His lectures are great and his office hours are very useful to get help with topics you don't understand. He is willing to go the extra mile to make sure you understand the concepts. He stresses gaining a fundamental understanding of the subjects and not just blindly following the math.

Excellent instructor for ECE. Very fair exams, and made the material easy to understand (still sort of confused on convolution, however). I feel very prepared to take on ECE 352 next term thanks to Dr. Liu.

Dr. Liu is the best! I took the class with another instructor and it was the worst. Liu really cares about your learning experience and if you are understanding the material. If you can, take the class with him. Material is hard, but exams are fair.

Dr. Liu was very diligent about returning E-mails in a very short time frame. I could send him a captured image of a hand written problem and he would respond within a half hour (disregarding late night E-mails). He has a strong dialect but world class patience, he will always let you approach him with a question in his office-- Strongest Resource!

Notice how all of the old ratings for this prof sucks. They are wrong! Don't pay attention to them. In reality, Dr. Liu is an awsome prof. He is fair in class, and has relatively easier midterms/finals compared to other profs who teach. I actually took this class some time ago, not sure if he still teaches ECE 351. Take his classes!! He's Awsome!!!

Great labs and lectures, and great professor. Very reasonable exams. I love the class. The concept appeared to be difficult initially, but I was able to pull most pieces together after a few weeks.

The class is not hard, it’s the 2nd in the series and is easier then the first. Lab is really fun even if you’re not into signals. Liu give the usual confusing lectures but the book is great and explaining it and Liu is much better at explaining things 1 on 1 in office hours. He really wants each student to prove that they learned something useful.

He does a good job explaining things in office hours or after class. Many people are afraid of the material because of the calculus involved, but there isn’t really anything new, just new applications of old stuff. His tests ask simple questions that are far more conceptual then the homework; worry more about understanding the material.

Huaping has bad days and good days. Unfortunately they seem to come in streaks, so there will be several weeks of material that you have no idea what the ... he is talking about. But on the other hand, when he is clear, he isn't bad, if you can follow his limited English. Tests are straightforward, and usually way easier than the homework.

I loved this class!!! Too bad this guy sucks at teaching the material. Makes stuff that can be explained very simply, and easily crazy confusing. This guy is like an anti-teacher. What's sucks is that he doesn't realize how bad he is. If everyone got 50% on the test, that MUST be because we didn't study enough. Lab is cool but not the greatest prof
