He is the most disgusting professor I have ever had the misfortune to enroll in a class for. Never ever, like ever, take his course.

His lectures were random. Gives a group project and the final grade is based on the final project. Has a dark humor. Not a accessible outside the class. All he cares about is his research. Unfortunately all the grad level signal processing subjects are taught by him. There was no take away from the subject. All the learnings were from self study.

The course I took had no tests, quizzes or assignments. The entire grade depended on one final project. He would not micromanage, so that's good. Make sure you are a small team and do a good project (don't pick easy ones or copy from the internet). He is funny, course is somewhat unstructured, lectures will be loosely based on IEEE papers.

Equal parts comedy, genius and insanity, Dr Fam's classes are like being taught by the mad hatter from Alice and wonderland. If you put up with his antics & engage with him outside of class, they are an easy A

SOLID researcher and critic. It is a graduate level course: no wonder it is more research based (as it should be!)

Dr. Fam is an easy professor who actually has quite a lot of interesting things to say about his subject matter. Problem is, his grading policy for the final project seems to be quite subjective. My group did well; others didn't. If he likes you personally, you will do well in his class. Otherwise it becomes a challenge.

Terrible professor... Grazes over random things with no plans, no structure to his class whatsoever. Just assigns a few small easy projects, and then one final project worth most of your grade of which he is most likely to ridicule unless you go well above and beyond. Don't bother going to class, he often doesn't...

First 2-3 weeks were nonstop talk about patents and adders. No solid foundation. Then there's a group project that everyone scrambles over in order to impress him. 3/4 of the sem no one comes to class, including him. No guidelines or HW. You only get one grade - your final grade, which he makes up. CSE majors: Take the other course. EEs are stuck.

he is very bad prof, all he cares is about the final project which is like 50% of the final grade, he doesn't care about you at all, he will give easy small projects, which can be found through internet and TA's are very helpful, however, they might change if the students from previous class have very good final project.

All he cares about is his research! Don't waste your time going to class because google is your best friend when it comes to the projects. If he feels that your not worthy to be a TA for the next semester he doesn't even bother listening to your final project. Even though this class is horrible its not hard and easy to do well.

In simple words, if you have the chance to not take his class, do it! Toughest professors ever and puts harsh comments on students if they don't attend the class. TAs are friendly though and help you a lot. 4 studies and 1 final project worth 50% of the final grade.

Lets start off with the fact that this is a digital circuits class, starting with basic Boolean and progressing along normal lines. Since day one all he has talked about is adders and the many different types, his current research topic. He asked the class how they thought it was going and when someone answered he told them to shut up Would no rec.

We did research during my MS. He maybe is not the best prof. but he is a very good researcher and adviser. I took a DSP class with him and we talked about new stuff, not the boring and basic things from books (already known for all) You need to study and to try your best to get a good grade... no excuses... and think before ask a question...

I had Adly Fam for Discrete Time systems in 1978. I did bad on the project, failed the tests, and didnt have a clue what practical use the course material had. However he passed me because i had tried my best. At the end of the course he said "you did bad but its OK". I went on to graduate and have decent career.

He is a good guy really. He does lose it when asked stupid questions, but hey, there are no stupid questions only stupid people :). The project makes you work hard. If he sees honest work gone in to it , you ll get an A, otherwise the best you will do is a B. He is not as bad as some people here say. (may be they got a bad grade)

This guy sucks! Teaches very little material, skips from one thing to another without sticking to anything concrete or any specific subject matter. The semester is over and I still don't know why the course is called circuit analysis 2 when we hardly did any circuits. He spends more time talking about his damn feelings and quizzes than teaching.

Evil to students who ask questions, he will embarrass you in front of the entire class, but the class is sympathetic, complains about noise in the lecture room above him, somewhat vague about what is on exams, but the class is quite easy (quizzes, no final, one presentation), so get the TA to help and go to recitation and study

Bad Prof. Gives a few HW, and quizzes and assigned a group presentation. Never fully explained what he wanted for the presentation, even though he was asked in class at least 10 times. He taught very little material. You need this class to graduate and to help along your course of study, this class didn't help me in the long run, don't take w/ Fam

He asked me how it was going after class one day. I told him I understood how to do what he had explained that day, but I didn't understand its application. He went into a several minute tirade about how he couldn't believe I didn't get it, and that I should switch majors because I was going to make a terrible engineer! All that from one comment!
