Comment:
I'd consider other professors offering this class instead of Dr. Green. I found his lectures quite boring and too complex, and I have a great interest in the material. He focuses a lot on the Middle East because it's his specialty but neglects other areas. Tests and blackboard quizzes are difficult and time-consuming.

Professor Green is a great professor. He really knows what he is talking about, after all he's been teaching for 35 years!! And has studied everywhere! The tests are right from the lectures; the art and architecture is tough... Has a tutor system that works great! Over all a great Professor. I have learned a ton and he is quite humorous!

Comment:
Professor Green is pretty good. He teaches clearly. Tests are fairly difficult, but if you study, you'll do well. He curves generously for those on the lower end. There are daily online quizzes to be done before class, but these are not too difficult. His teaching style is a little odd, but once you get used to it, it's good.

He's a tough teacher who curves generously if you're on the lower end but hardly curves the higher end. You don't get picked as a tutor just be cause you got an A on the first test. I got a A+ but was lucky and I studied 20 hours. I still wasn't a tutor.. The next test was worse I studied 15 hrs. and got a B-.. not worth the effort to get an A

What a bore. He is a very nice person, but good grief! What a wretched class. His tests are impossible! I have never been so happy to get a B+ in a class in my life! SO MUCH READING and SUCH HARD TESTS! Lectures were okay, but sometimes way, way, way over my head.

He's tough but he sure knows his stuff. If you take the time to study his tests and prepare essays beforehand you'll do fine (and because he curves the tests generously).

I've had this professor for 2 classes MESA 201 and HIST 241, I will put of graduating if i have to take his HIST 240 class in fall. He is an alwful teacher, boring and very unclear. After studying for the tests for 7 Hours i would be excited to get a 60% after the curve it would only be a b-, & he doesnt test on the information covered in lecture

I took his class 2 years ago and I am still fuming mad. Regardless of other comments on the board, he does not tell you exactly what is on the test. I was surprised to show up on midterm days having studied for hours just to be tested on something that didn't appear on the study guide. In addition, his book is a poor excuse of academic literature.

He expects you to know as much as he does about the middle east. If you don't know as much, you won't do well on the tests because he tests on things that aren't covered. There is too much irrelevant reading.

I took this class more than two years ago and I still hate the guy. We didn't even have a text book when I took the course! He gave us random poems and then tested us about specific horrible events. I once saw him give a devotional talk after the course. I now refuse to listen to devotionals because they allowed him to speak at one.

If you get an A on the first Midterm he will pick you to tutor. That means that you get an A in his class and dont have to take any other exams. Just tutor and you will get an A. But you have to prove yourself on the first exam.

This class wasn't that difficult. He gave the tests a huge curve, and he gave us essay questions to prepare before each test. Dr. Green taught me many new things about history that were very interesting. In my class, there was plenty of class discussion, so unless you are a slacker looking for effortless A, this class should be manageable.

Worse professor at BYU. Honestly impossible tests, that cover specific and meaningless things. No one could keep up with him. Updates his one personal history book every year, so you can't sell your book back. $80 for a book that is difficult to understand and you can't sell back. I exert you with all the energy of my soul. Avoid Green at all cost

Class materials very disorganized and unclear. Huge amount of reading. Lectures boring. Tests on random minutae--hard and unproductive, worthless. What's good? He doesn't want anyone to have to retake his class, so the curve is huge. Learn key words, artist and poet names, architecture pictures, shoot for around a 60% on tests. I escaped with a B-.

The class lectures were completely worthless. Dr. Green always spoke above everybody's head so no one understood what he was saying. Even the TAs would get lost in his lectures. All the info I learned in the class came from the TAs and nothing from Dr. Green- no exageration!

I'm a history major and as such I feel like I have a pretty good idea of what history professors should be, and Dr. Green is not it. His lectures are just that--lectures, with no class discussion. The combination of boringness with workload makes his classes hard to stomach.

i've found that i fall asleep during his lectures quite frequently. I recommend taking a eyelash plucking class before taking this one. I don't think i'm learning anything at all except how to sleep with someone talking and people around me

Dr. Green is very knowledgable and loves history. He does require a lot of reading, but he also pretty much tells you which readings will be on the exam and which ones won't. Most of the readings are historical liturature and not typical history text.

One of the most boring classes I've ever taken. He managed to suck any enjoyment out of such an interesting topic. He requires a lot of reading. Don't take more than 10 credits with this. His tests are vague. I agree, just shoot yourself in the foot.

Took a middle eastern history class from him a long time ago. It was hard, and some of the lectures were boring. But he knows and loves his subject! I found him helpful.
