I am not a fan of Shakespeare whatsoever, but Professor Vos made the material so much better. I wasn't a fan of the discussion section, but his lectures helped make the class bearable.

Vos makes Shakespeare interesting and actually helps you understand the plays. He is funny and lectures are more than just him talking. No tests at all (no final), grade is based on small essays throughout. If you have to take Shakespeare, take it with Vos.

Great class if you want to volunteer on campus and in the community. Also great to take freshman year and helps you make a lot of friends and get to know your new home. Loved this class, honestly the highlight of my week and a great class to destress and focus on what really matters

Greatest writing class ever. I learned so much, and Al makes it really easy to do well if you're willing to put in the effort. You can do as many drafts as you have time for until you're satisfied/done editing. The topic/concepts of the class are so interesting, and Al is honestly just a great person. Makes me love writing.

Al is the best. He cares about his students and about the community. He is Binghamton's ultimate grandpa. My talks with him always ended with tears and hugs. I have taken two classes with him and I just want to bring him home.

PEACE LOVE AL VOS. Took writing 111 with him freshmen year, absolutely loved it. He cares so so much and really wants to make your class a family. He is so approachable outside of class and wants you to get an A. I would love to take this class over again. That man is the grandpa I always wanted.

The syllabus explains everything. No surprises. Just read the plays, write the papers and you'll do fine. The lectures can get boring but usually they are at least somewhat interesting due to the videos he plays. He will also get you thinking critically about the plays some of the time. Worth taking if you like Shakespeare.

The best professor I've ever had hands down. Al has helped bring out the best in me as a writer and has been a wonderful resource of support. He has been a mentor to me, and a friend--even since I have left Binghamton. Get to know him!

Al Vos is by far the best professor at Binghamton. Do not take Shakespeare with anyone else. He is not only so sweet and caring, but he is also so educated and passionate about this subject. I wish I could retake this class, it's honestly that good.

Professor Vos is one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet. Met him at my freshman orientation, and knew that I wanted to take a class with him someday. Paid off. Incredibly helpful. Very knowledgable. Shakespeare class with him was great. One of my favorite professors ever.

One of the best teachers ever. This class isn't going to judge you on exams, but rather, grade you on your participation and engagement. He's truly a person who wants us to learn through experience and service; he practices it as well. If you have problems with writing, look for him! He's always willing to help. I would recommend him.

Great guy. Super friendly and understanding. Books are used heavily for one paper. Research paper isn't too bad. He gives you back your essays so you can make them better and it helps if you meet with him. He does have a somewhat narrow view so it helps SO MUCH to talk to him and get his perspective. Great guy.

Professor Vos is amazing! He is a professor who not only teaches, but genuinely cares about his students, even urging them to get involved in campus activities. He really helps freshmen transition to the intimidating life that college can be. Literacies of Power is nothing short of a life changing class. I highly recommend it and Professor Vos!

Very friendly, clear, genuinely nice person. The TAs determine your grade but Vos makes it really easy to understand the main themes and insights of the plays so you should do fine. Don't buy the textbook, just get each play individually-- like $3/each versus $150 for the textbook. They're public domain on the internet, too.
