Very unorganized and unclear about things. If you ask him to clarify the syllabus, he won't. Optional reading that he says is actually mandatory. He will say that the discussion is only opened for three days then does it for five days or a week and then out of nowhere, back to three days. When he says midnight, he actually means by 11:59pm.

Alan Gibson is a terrific professor. He has an incredible breadth of knowledge across many disciplines and incorporates this into his course. The lectures are interesting, thought provoking and far more engaging than most other courses. There is a substantial amount of reading, but it is additionally covered in depth in the lectures.

Comment:

Gibson one of the greatest professors. His lectures are very interesting and not boring because he lectures for about 35 minutes and then he opens class discussions. If you have done the readings, the exams aren't hard & there's a study guide. Paper is straightforward. If you go to his office hours he's very helpful. He cares about his students.

Gibson is an awesome professor. Provokes students to think harder about a topic. Papers are straightforward. He really likes people that have an opinion and speak up in the class. Smart guy, was really into the topics. He enjoys being talked to outside of class and that's a good way to get him to like you. Tests require a lot of memorization.

Gibson is really nice and he is always super helpful. His tests and study are guides are very similar, so you already know what to study. His paper is pretty straight forward. He likes class discussions. In our last class, he told us he always wants us to succeed and was super caring

Gibson's lecture can be long sometimes, but he's a really cool guy-- sometimes funny! He doesn't really assign any homework, just some reading. You just have to show up; his attendance is taken intermittently. He likes class discussion and always wants people to share. He gives a study guide which is pretty much the key to the test. Very smart guy!

Knowledgeable for sure. Not a good teacher but you can tell he is smart. Assigns a lot of reading but not so much that you're drowning. Just keep up with the class and read. Like I said, smart guy not really teacher material.

He knows what he is talking about but he can be insensitive. I think we got off on the wrong foot, but overall his class doesn't require you to do a whole lot of work. Two major exams, daily participation pts, and a paper. Very intelligent professor, just has high standards but good quality class bc I pay out of pocket, worth the cash I paid.

Overall, the material was clear and easy to understand and lectures were available always for review or if you wanted to start a folder early. I personally did not enjoy the class much as I felt like it was far too much work for a lower division GE. I did less work in my major classes, but definitely not the worst option for a gov. class.

Gibson knows what he is talking about in this class and loves to challenge students. Extremely tough class. Be a readerskimmer and attend every class or else it will be tough for you. Gibson is always willing to help and is a teacher who wants to see students succeed. I recommend him. There is no textbook, just a bunch of books that you need.

Gibson is unbelievably well-versed in his area of expertise. He loves to encourage debate, is very receptive to alternative views, and always has a measured take on the topic at hand. Expectations of coursework aren't extremely clear, but show him that you're doing your best - show up, do the reading - and you'll do fine. Awesome professor.

Great teacher. Engages the class and wants debate. Pick a side and stick to it and don't be afraid to defend yourself. He likes to make sure everyone gets their say. Tough grader, but study the study guides and listen in class to get a B. To get the A be sure to do the readings because they come up more than you think on the tests.

I took his class by online class.He was really helpful for me to study Political Science and fair grader. However, syllabus is tough. Hard to get in A range and if you want to take online class, take other class. He sometimes make mistakes when he organize blackboard.

He is an awesome teacher! POLS 438 is a complicated class but he makes it seem easy. His tests are too the point and he tells you what easy questions to study. There is no confusion in his class because he explains everything so clearly. He cares about his students! I would take any one of his classes because he just wants you to succeed!

Comment:

Best teacher I've ever had. He's passionate about what he teaches which makes all the difference. Class discussions are frequent and intriguing. Tests comprise of essay, multiple choice and definitions. As long as you attend the class and pay attention to what he points out you'll do great. If you have the chance take his class.
