Comment:
Dr. Hertzke is really a great professor. He very clearly cares about government and is extremely passionate. I enjoyed his lectures, that being said, what can really make the difference in this class is the GA you get for your discussion section. Either way, the lectures are great and I would definitely take another of his courses.

Dr. Hertzke is one of my favorite profs at OU. I took his honors course called Great Ideas. While it was a lot of work, reading, etc, it was worth it. He is a true showman, and there was never a dull moment in his class. This class was primarily discussion based and he did a good job facilitating that and remaining unbiased.

Dr. Hertzke cares about his students so much and is extremely passionate about teaching. I took his Perspectives course about political philosophy and loved it though I had almost no prior knowledge of the topic. The reading is a bit on the heavy side, but worth it because of the interesting discussions. Great prof, take him if you love to learn!

Dr. Hertzke is an excellent professor. Attendance isn't mandatory per say but if you want to pass you'll need to attend. The class isn't hard and if you show up, do the connect homework, study the easy lecture notes you can easily do well on the tests. There were only 3 3-4 essays the whole year, totally doable.

Dr. Hertzke is WONDERFUL. If you have the chance to take any class with him, DO. It is so refreshing to take a class from a professor who is so clearly passionate about what he does. Not only is he passionate, but he's also brilliant, kind, and funny. He is excellent at leading discussions; he never shames students or makes us feel awkward. 10/10.

Hertzke is passionate about political science, but there is no good way to study for the exams, especially the short answers. Be prepared to literally study all the material. Mindtap is broken and when more than 55% of a 200+ student class fails an exam he blames the students instead of taking responsibility.

Hertzke is very passionate about what he does. He gets VERY excited during lecture. Met him outside of class several times, very friendly and talkative when he saw me. Overall good prof. Most of the questions on the tests are from the MindTap practice test. Many short papers. Some are easy A's, some are a little harder. Super easy online homework.

Dr Hertzke is great! I'm in my mid-30's, more conservative thinking than most kids in college, and figured this class would be more liberal bias. Though it may have been in parts, he actually does an awesome job relating to and explaining the curriculum. As long as you go to class, labs, do the homework, and actually study, you should do fine!

Dr. Hertzke is amazing! I took his class in Fall of freshman year, and I thought I would hate it, but it was actually one of my favorite classes. He is such a cool guy, and loves to take time out to talk to students. The class was pretty easy, but not so easy that you don't learn.

He is an incredible professor and it's obvious he's really passionate about what he's teaching. You HAVE to show up to class, there's so much you'll be behind on if you don't. He's a tough grader on papers, but not impossible.

Very passionate professor who cares about his students. Gives great lectures, even though I was not too interested in the subject. Not a difficult class, but not the easiest. I had to register to vote and attend a city council meeting for this class.

Gov is not my fav subject therefore thats my main struggle. Had an A and then did not do well enough on my final to keep it. However, if youre willing to study and understand the material, its not a bad class. any essays and not a basic class. Hertzke is definitely passionate about gov. informational class.

When I graduate, I will have taken three classes and done my Honors Research with Dr. Hertzke. He is one of the best professors at this university. Truly excited and passionate about his work, he inspires his students and engages them in class. He is demanding. Do not take his classes unless you are willing to put foth serious effort.

I took his Religion & Foreign Policy course. Very charismatic lecturer- he likes to pretend to be different scholars (Soroush, Huntington, etc). His course requires continual daily work. I don't regret taking his class & I learned SO much! He truly cares about his students. I highly recommend his course- just be prepared to put in the effort!

Expects LOTS of critical thinking. Tends to like answers similar to his own. Demands well written work, but is fair.
