He's really just okay. Like, his lectures are just okay. His feedback? Meh. I met him twice outside of class and I left without much clarification because he tends to just repeat some jargon at you. I got the sense that he wasn't super into the idea of talking to students, either.

A solid prof who has a passion for his field. Lectures are engaging and interesting. The 2 Assignment papers are modestly difficult but not impossible. The exams was relatively easy, as long as you put in the work to study. The only thing is you pretty much have to go to lectures as the slides have little content. Overall good prof and class!

I took this course because I thought it would be an easy social science elective. WRONG!!! Prof doesn't have any info on lecture slides so you have to go to class and listen. 50 mins in class to do a 50 mark midterm (20%) which had an essay as 1 of 3 sections. The 2 essays worth 25% were marked very hard, so expect a high 60 or low 70 on those.

As a first year student who is not majoring in history( or have taken any course remotely close to modern world history) i found this course difficult. He is a nice prof who will help you if you need it, but i found the lectures brutal to sit through... he was quick and assumed the class knew more than we did. The textbook was horrible.

Very helpful, and takes the time in a lecture to pause and ask is clarification is needed or anyone has questions. Once questions do start, there's very good conversation exchange between all students in the lecture and you always learn something newextra. Studying from list of terms is more than enough to do well on exams.

McDougall is a genius in his field. His course is interesting, the material is easy if you've taken any high school histories! The exams are easy if you attend lecture, the papers require a bit of work though!

What a great professor. He always wants you to pass your course and will give you the proper feedback for anything, especially if you talk to him. Also a very nice guy. In this class I did an essay on the wrong topic because of differing textbook versions, and he offered to let me re-do it instead of giving me a 0 on the assignment

Amazing! Great teacher, kept things interesting and had a great sense of humour, not to mention his good looks play a big factor in wanting to attend his class. Very clear on instructions and always willing to help students.

Okay, I'm British so the accent doesn't distract me. He's a really nice guy though. Very approachable and helpful with academic queries. His lectures are interesting, but if you haven't read the readings there tends to be plenty of awkward silences and he just doesn't give up easily! I swear one silence lasted at least a minute.

Such a great prof! He's super smart and always has an answer no matter what crazy questions people ask. Has a good sense of humour and is very friendly and approachable. Definitely go to class and take lots of notes. He can move quickly at times during the lectures but he's always happy to repeat something. Oh and did I mention he's HOT?!
