Stagl's a pretty cool guy but the class was very boring. As a history major, I could pick out serious historical inaccuracies in the material, which was obnoxious. LOTS of readings and homework, but he grades based on whether you did it or not. Overall, it was easy for me but I didn't especially enjoy it.

Nice enough guy, but a very boring class. I'm a history major and learned nothing in this French history class--some of the info was actually false. Lectures are long and boring and completely textbook-based. Ridiculous amounts of homework that don't help you learn anything. I found it all really easy, but everyone else found it hard and useless.

Very helpful and enthusiastic. He is willing to help and work with students that put forth the effort. All the people on here saying he doesn't care probably didn't try hard enough in the class to begin with. If you do the hw and pay attention in class, you'll do great!

If you didn't have a good handle on 101, then I wouldn't suggest him for you. If you are used to listening to the language, it's very simple. You have to be on your toes for when he picks on you though and if you aren't one of the best you might get embarrassed here or there. Tests were hard to get above 90 if you're used to that. LOTS of short ora

He's a really good teacher..to those who are complaining about him talking in just French...Hello! Welcome to college, that's what all the language teachers do. You're not in high school anymore. Having someone speaking a language you're trying to learn basically forces you to learn and I find it helpful. If you do the hw you'll do GREAT

This dude is really awesome. He is so knowledgeable about all things France. He goes once a year on his own to Paris just for fun. He really loves the city, French culture and language. Take this class!! Save some bones and take it. Paris won't disappoint with this guy at the helm.

he's a nice guy, but he expects A LOT for a 101 course. he speaks mostly in french and expects you to just come in knowing all the vocabulary so it can be really intimidating. he does 4 days of testing in a row: oral, composition, culture, and a written test. he's an easy grader, but i recommend a different teacher if you really want to learn.

Fairly straightforward grammer class. Stagl is an alright teacher, he does what he can, but the class can get boring. Do the exercises and activities in the workbook, and it should be easy. He grades pretty fairly, and even if you bomb a test your grade can recover. Homework every night, but it helps in the long run. Reccomend.

Such a funny, cool, knowledgable guy. It was worth waiting to take this course so that I could take it with him! Buy the text book, but not the workbook/dictionary bundle (you're not going to need those, but the text book is important!) He keeps it pretty light and the assignments/tests aren't bad at all!
