Alan is the worst prof I've ever had. He was rude and condescending to students when they asked questions. He wasted time during class to bother students with questions that you didn't know were rhetorical or not. He did not prepare before the class resulting in him being confused by the content he was trying to teach. Avoid at all costs.

alan is tough but fair. he truly beleives all his students can be great mathmeticians even if math is difficult for them. That being said, if math is difficult for you you will have to work really hard in this class because the material is difficult not the prof. he will push u to do your best! if you dont, hell let u know you need to try harder

He was an incredibly helpful professor who took the time to try and make sure that what he was teaching was understood. The nature of the course means that it is difficult, especially since this is most student's first foray into university mathematics. The class was tough, but he made it much easier than it could have been

Probably the rudest professor I've ever had. Took ten minutes to tell the class "the failing midterm average is because you aren't working hard enough". Dismisses student's questions, has illegible handwriting, messes up examples... stay away from him at all costs

I failed his class.. He goes through lectures so quickly and doesn't give good examples. It's like a race to keep up with him in lecture.. On the first day of lecture he told us all that at least 13 of the class would fail.. I'm sure he's a nice person but unless you're very comfortable with calculus already, i'm sorry but you probably won't pass.

Does not care about students, ignores emails with questions he thinks are "stupid questions." Handwriting is illegible. Comes late to his own class. Has no problem making rude remarks to students. Does not explain things. Makes calculus much harder and painful than it needs to be.

Killed my love for calculus. Dont take course with him. Attending class is useless. He has really bad hand writing that is very hard to understand. Also he does not cover many examples. Just the easy ones. Take the course with Noble or Barger, way mich better.

Takes the fun right out of calculus. Class notes are no help and a waste of time. He treats your Qs like dirt, even if your Q is a good one. If you answer one of his Qs, he'll find any way possible to disagree and make your answer sound wrong. Does not provide enough examples in class to fully grasp topics. Not worth taking. Dr. Noble does better!

This professor is awful. I took this cause I failed calc the first time and did worst this time around even though I attended every lecture and did the quizzes. He doesn't like answering questions, he's very rude and asks students questions on material he's covering as though he doesn't even know it himself. Avoid at all costs!

Hated his course. First class I EVER failed in university and I am normally an A/B student. Unbelieveable! Only covers basic questions but puts all the hard ones on the test and you end up having no idea what your doing! RUNNNNNN....

So far in class I have seen Surovell put great consideration into how to express an idea to make it more accessible. He seems to care greatly about whether or not the students understand the topic. Overall, I would describe him as considerate and attentive.

the average on both midterms for this class have been 30-35%. The examinations are ridiculously difficult. Surovell only covers basic examples, which he just takes out of the text book, thus making class attendance useless (though I attended everyone myself). Assignments take forever to do and are much harder than anything covered in class.HORRIBLE
