The best advice that I got for this course with him was to read the book. Read it and use the study guide quizzes. Lectures and videos are just for fun. Articles should be read too. Sweet man, but needs to fall off his high horse.

Overall I'd have to describe him as kind of weird. He's very passionate about the subject, maybe a little too much. Class discussions were generally interesting, although sometimes his examples weren't related to anything. Tests are entirely from the textbook & the readings!! His grading scales were very vague.

Your grade is completely subjective. He does sound like he is writing a book in front of you. I would not take him again.

Good guy, always seems to notice the class, if only the arrangement of students. Can be pretty interesting, very verbose and eloquent, if that's the thing you go for. It's like he's writing a book in front of you. But tough on participation. Don't say the obviously wrong thing either. He'll eat you.

This class was very interesting and made you really think. But his lectures were pointless because the tests were strictly from the reading.

he seems like a nice guy but is a really tough grader when it comes to presentations and class participations. Don't bring a notebook to class, his lectures are incoherent and his tests come right from the book.

I had him for upper-level soc, and he was amazing. We had no tests, just papers, and the class was mostly discussion. He knew his stuff and was passionate about it. Kind of tough grader, but not impossible to make A's. Awesome professor.

Won't give higher than a B+. He gave me a higher class participation grade the weeks I skipped class. I stopped taking notes in class, nothing is relevant to the exams. Lectures made me want to poke my eyes out with sharp sticks.

Fun to listen to in lecture, but unfornuately, his tests are almost completely out of the book. That said, participation is huge, so you have to go to class. Grades harder than he seems like he will, no one got an A on our midterm or on participation.

This class is hard to predict. Sometimes the discussions were fun and interesting. But other times he talked as though he were the best thing on the planet. It was almost as if he needed to feel smarter than you.

This guy def. knows his stuff! Lectures are pretty interesting and the exams come striaght from the readings. However, if you dont enjoy class participation DONT TAKE THE CLASS--this is a major part of your grade!

Very interesting man who takes pride in his knowledge and enjoys teaching. Interesting class, however the way he talks throws people off a bit-diction is a little too elevated and he is verbose. Tests are from the book and lectures can be enthralling

I find his class to be pretty easy semester. I also found him to be rather helpful but unclear. I usually did the readings and didn't look at his notes when studying and got A's on his tests

Absolutely the worst professor I had at the college. Completely unhelpful in every aspect. Every time I went to him to discuss something about a paper that was worth 50% of my final grade, he told me to figure it out for myself.

His lessons might be a little convoluted, but it's worth it for the action-packed adventure that is every thursday's class. if you read the text and add to the hot debates, you'll be fine.
