Don't miss a class he takes attendance. He will give background info from poems that you will then be expected to give on an exam. Exams are difficult you need to put a lot of effort in studying them. He can be quite arrogant at times and call people out. Don't think about having your cell phone out and participation is key.

amazing professor. extremely intelligent. exams are so damn easy. listen and write down everything he says and there's no way you won't ace that class. participate too. He cares about his students. he took the time to pull me aside & let me know i was a great asset to the class. just don't use your cell or come unprepared bc he will lower CP grade.

I took three classes with Alex, and he is the best professor I had at Cortland. His expectations are high, but if you were expecting a little work in college, what are you doing here?

He is very passionate teaching. He's a very nice man, however, he is a little too literal when it comes to his poems. Most were referenced to sexual things and made many of us feel very uncomfortable. Poems were out of the book everyday. He really cares about attendance and is a hard grader. You need to try really hard and STUDY.

Alex is a great guy. BUT, he expects you to understand every word that you read in stories and poems. Take DETAILED notes -- I write down everything he says, basically. If you make an effort to participate and pay attention to what's going on in class -- you should do okay. Tests can be VERY difficult though. Group studying can help. Great guy.

Alex is a great professor. You do not need to be a literature major to pass this class. He encourages his students to develop more imaginative and critical thinking skills. Contrary to the post below who cant even spell 'prepaired' correctly, he is brilliant and very professional.

Very nice guy, very knowledgeable, yet the hardest grader I've ever come across. For a test we had to define literary terms, and I got the whole definition wrong for a couple words because I didn't have his EXACT (I left out one word) definition that he gave us.

Highly recommend this class. All the comments about him attacking students are only due to THEIR laziness. He's happy if you just write a few notes about what you thought about the readings and read them off when he asks. All you have to do is read the required readings, which are never long, and write a few notes. He is always accepting of people'

Alex is by far one of the best teachers I've ever had! I took Irish Lit with him, and had a blast and learned a lot. The class is a lot of work, but you will do will as long as you read and do the required work. If you participate in class you will do even better. He always stimulated my thoughts and drove me to read more in depth. Great teacher!

Do Not Take this class, unless you are an Irish Lit major. He calls on students "randomly" and if you are unprepaired he makes it known to the whole class, however he is always unprepaired and in shambles every class. He belittles students often You are supposed to know everything even if it isnt talked about in class. Good luck passing this class.

Irish Lit: sounds boring, but he makes it good! Consistant themes make it easy to know what to look for when reading. IMPERITIVE to write response to material and look of vocabulary. Can be a little one sided on his opinion of subjects, but still very accepting. Love love love love! He's very encouraging of his students and encourages questions.

Last class I had with this professor was about 8 years ago. I've graduated since then, but I still remember how great his classes were. I liked everything about them. If you try hard and want to do well, you will. He appreciates people who try. He's a fabulous teacher and a really good friend.

Since it is writing intensive i cant even tell you how much paper i have used. You need to write a response to a poem but it is based on your opinion so it is easy He is a VERY tough grader and tests are a little hard because he expects a lot since all the poems are covered in class. he is upfront of what he wants. DO NOT BE LATE!

He knows what he is talking about, you will learn alot about poems. Summary written for each poem, not always collected, particpation necessary, one paper, two tests (lots of memorizing)nice guy means well but says really weird things that make students uncomfortable.seems to be really paranoid about what students say about him

Take this professor. Very smart, very funny, and always ALWAYS accepts any opinion you may have of anything - even if he disagrees completely. Seriously makes poetry enjoyable. The only bad part of the class is he is VERY strict with attendance, and his exams happen to be mildly difficult. Other than that, he is one of the best professors here.

Although he is a tough grader, he takes care of his students and helps them whenever he can. The class is not that bad if you do the work.
