Menocal is sweet and caring, as well as highly intelligent on the course's subject matter. Don't take Approaches to Literary Interpretation for an easy-A. This was one of the most rewarding classes I've taken at UNF as an English major. Speak up in class and give your input, even if it's just a question, he will always have insight to share.

Professor Menocal is one of the most caring professors I have had at UNF. He loves what he teaches, and he eagerly helps students in and out of class time. If you take his class seriously, then you will leave as a better reader and writer. He is also delightfully quirky!

He's a good professor, just very boring. The class is mandatory and I know some ENC 1143 teachers try to make their classes fun but he goes directly from the guidelines and it is just not a fun class at all. You get three days to miss and then attendance becomes mandatory. Also get ready to do a lot of reading and responses.

This is the class that you do every single assignment out of the classroom. What you discuss in class is basically useless. The best part is attendance is mandatory. Lectures are beyond boring. Menocal is a very tough grader. I am someone who loves English and writing but menocal basically ruins it. Would not recommend.

Three projects throughout the semester that accumulate to 15% of your grade each. Very strict grader and the lectures weren't very helpful for me.

He was average. Pretty fair grader on essays but a lot of busy work outside of class. Lectures were ehhh. The one thing I did not like at all was how he gives a participation based off if you speak aloud in class, and if you don't speak he gives you a zero each class you don't speak aloud. Rate 6/10.

Menocal is a tough grader, but he is very accessible and very willing to help you and give good feedback during office hours. Utilizing office hours frequently is the best way to get a good grade in this class. Be prepared to participate in the conversation at least once every class. If you skip class a lot do not take this course.

I am a person who enjoys the subject of reading and English, and yet I did not enjoy this class. Menocal was boring, in my opinion, makes your participate in class for a grade, and tries to push his interests onto you. I definitely would not take him again.

Incredibly boring and horrible about feedback, you won't know your grade on anything or in the class until the end of the semester when it's submitted. You could think you have an A in the class but you actually have an F because that's how much he communicates

Attendance mandatory. Very hard grader. Incredibly boring lectures. Wouldn't take again because of how boring the entire class was. Numerous papers and SO much course material to do outside of class. Avoid.

Hardest class I've ever taken. He expects all of his students to have a background in film. Do not take to this class if your trying to satisfy a general education requirement.

Go to his office hours and talk to him. Going to class, he may not be clear on what he expects. He's a good guy. I underestimated the difficulty of his quizzes and flunked the midterm. However, I started to study and ANNOTATE the readings which helped me get over 100 on recent quizzes. Do talk to him, that is half the battle.

Menocal is a great professor! Don't take Approaches to Literary Interpretation if you are looking for an easy A. You will work hard in any class you take with him but its worth it because you learn so much. You can tell he is very intelligent and clearly enjoys what he does. I would definitely recommend him!

Menocal is amazing! I become a better writer with every class of his I take. The material isn't easy, but he does such a great job of teaching it. He is really helpful and approachable. He genuinely cares about his students: what they think, if they're learning, and if they're succeeding. He is fantastic!

Mr. Menocal is a great listener to his students. He's extremely professional but also friendly. The concepts are sometimes difficult to understand, but he does a good job explaining and answering questions. The essays are long and difficult. You WILL fall behind if you don't read. CLASS PARTICIPATION IS REQUIRED. DON'T take if you're very shy.

He's very good at explaining the concepts but you definitely need to read BR a couple of times before class. Take lots of notes and be sure to participate. What's also great is that he'll give you an extension on every paper except the last if you ask for it. Even if you don't think you need it go ahead and get it anyway. I highly recommend him.

He's the toughest, most intimidating professor I've taken but also among the best, fairest, and most engaging. He'll meet with you and give you detailed feedback on your papers BEFORE you submit them. He makes every effort to help you understand the concepts of the course and succeed, but you'll only do well if you actually succeed. Very fair.

MENOCAL IS THE BEST! I have taken multiple classes with him. Some may find him boring but he is easy going and a laid bak person. He may seem shy but if you go to his office he will go over every detail of your papers if you want. He explains exactly what he is looking for. You must read but it is only for your benefit. You will gain a lot from him

NOT an easy A. You will read four novels over the course of the semester and write three papers relating the novel to the topics discussed. the topics are very lengthy and complex. Menocal is VERY friendly and helpful (always available for office hours). *Don't be discouraged, read, go to class, take notes, ask for help*
