Far too much to memorize and you wind up feeling incompetent. Wasn't there half the time, with the substitute being useful if not as dry as the Gobi desert. When he's there he's a great guy and really knows what he's talking about. He obviously doesn't want to be teaching an intro class, though.

Smart guy, funny lecturer, but the class has so much stuff you have to memorize. Not very available as far as office hours and email contact goes

The content was hard, but it was a privilege to be in the presence of Pouget. He clearly knew what he was talking about, and he speaks well. He wasn't there all the time, but his co-Professor was just as qualified. Loved him.

There was a lot of material, but I'm so amazed by how much I learned. Dr. Pouget was organized and really passionate about BCS. He was a lot funnier than I expected.

This class is based on memorization, but if you start 2-3 weeks before the exam and cover a little every few days, you should do well. I was closer to the B range, but he was nice enough to move me to a B+. (This might not work for everyone-special circumstances) The material's dense, but he does his best to liven up class with a few jokes

Challenging class. Lot's of informations to memorize. I found reading the book quite helpful for reviewing before taking midterms. Eventhough his lecture slides are online, attending to class is crucial to pass the class. I personally enjoyed this class and learned many informations. I would highly recommend this class.

Comment:
This class is tough. The midterms are based entirely on the lectures so reading the book was pointless. I found the notes he posted online to be very helpful when it came time to studying. The final exam was pretty brutal. Overall, I learned a ton in a very short amount of time and Pouget always tries to thrown in some jokes to keep us entertained

This is not an easy course, theres a LOT of material to be remembered...but Pouget somehow gets the information across and its not terribly hard to get an A if you spend a great amount of time studying. Tests are all multiplce choice, but r very detailed and tricky.

Knows his material, but his accent--he's french--sometimes prevents clear understanding. And, as a lecture class in a large dark room with padded seats at 9:40 in the morning? Zzzzzzz... literally.

Good professor considering the amount of information given and class sizee. Just wish he placed more priority on the class and used less guest lecturers.

Alex is an expert in computational modeling. He expects a high level of performance. The syllabus claims the class is for all math skills but be prepared for lots of derivations and much more intensity than Robbie's 512 course. CS446 Foundations of AI is a good complement to the course. You can learn quite a bit about modeling if you work hard.

Pouget is awesome. He is really cool and funny (without trying to be). Kinda awkward and French. Lectures are interesting and clear. He does a great job. Tests are multiple choice and easy.

Basically he shows up sometimes and lectures, otherwise the (stupid) TAs do everything.
