I think the positive reviews on here are for a different professor with similar name, Tovstolis. He is funny, very accessible and a great professor. Tovbis on the other hand is very dry and has high, often unrealistic, expectations of students. Can seem condescending. That being said, Tovbis is pretty fair when it comes to grading, etc.

Ill start by saying he is an awesome person; funny, caring, and accessible outside of class. The class itself, however, is very difficult. The tests are hard, but he is a lenient grader. pop quizzes. Also, grades are not put into webcourses at all. Overall, I would not shy off from taking his class, but it is difficult to get an A.

Tovbis isn't a good teacher, but what makes his class difficult is that he presumes his students already know the material, and therefore makes his nearly daily 5 minute 1 question quizzes difficult (most people didn't finish regularly). His tests are VERY difficult. I think only two people in my class got an A. He has a policy of "NO CURVING."

Dr. Tovbis cared about how students are doing in the class, however his Calc2 class is I am certain the hardest one UCF offers. His test questions range from fair to insane, as well as daily quizzes over questions harder than the homework. You will know the material better than other classes, but will have a lower grade. USE PatrickJMT or fail!

Gave a quiz nearly every day. Knows the material very well but not too great at communicating it. If you keep up with the homework and know the theorems you might be fine.

OMG this professor is hilarious!!!! He really cares about his students passing his class. A lot of people weren't doing so well in the class so he offered us extra credit in a couple different ways. Loves to dab so feel free to get on his good side by doing the dab on day 1. Definitely recommend taking him if you want to learn something.

Hardest class I have ever taken in my life. If you get an A in this class, you are a superhuman and should feel like it. He is average at teaching concepts and gives very hard tests, but he is very likable nonetheless. If you have a different option, go with the other option, but if you're stuck with this guy, do your best work you have ever done.

Very difficult, even if you aced AP Calc in high school. Tovbis doesn't teach concepts well, and he acts condescending and judgmental when you ask questions in class. However, if you persevere (and teach yourself everything), his class forces you to become a stronger mathematician, and you'll end up viewing him with grudging respect.

DO NOT TAKE THIS MAN. He basically wants you to memorize the book and write it perfectly on the test. Miss one adjetive and its -5. He won't readjust your grade and has a talent for making people feel stupid. If you must take him, do ALL your homework and memorize every single theoretical definition. I did well and still hated the class. Unbearable

This professor is insane. He makes you memorize all the differential equation theorems and asks you to regurgitate them on a test. Also on tests if you make a simple mistake you get no credit on the problem because "it won't be tolerated". He knows his stuff , but if you wanna good grade you gotta master the stuff.

Tovbis is a very poor professor. He said the class isn't about memorizing concepts however you must memorize theorems in order to get a good grade on quizzes and tests. Test questions are magnitudes harder than anything on the homework or quizzes. He grades some people harshly while grades others leniently, depending on the student. Stay away.

Calc II is already difficult enough, Tovbis makes it MUCH harder. Tells you theorems should be understood, not memorized, but tests asks complete, word for word definition. Test is a VERY HIGH jump from difficulty over homework. You are FORCED to learn from the book by yourself if you wish to even pass the course. Stay away. For your sake.

The class is very difficult. Grade is based on three tests, final, and pop quizzes in class. Although attendance is not required, you never know if you are going to miss a quiz. Need to make sure you memorize all theorems from the book.

I took this class his first time teaching it. He does almost daily quizzes and lectures straight from the book. Each test had 5 questions, 1 was always impossible, but all questions came straight from the hw. Very challenging, but you do learn a lot. Or are forced to if you want to do good.

He makes the course very difficult to do well in with very difficult tests and quizzes. The questions on hw and reviews are consistently much easier than what he expects you to do on the test. He grades the questions leniently and even so you will be lucky if you pass with a C. Grades based solely on 3 tests, 1 final, and in class quizzes

All his tests are closed book. He wants you to remember all the formulas, which he himself can not memorize. He wants you to memorize all definitions of terms, and memorize the proof of theorems. His attitude makes you want to quit your education. I had to drop the course. Only 4 poor students were in the class by the end of the semester.

Do not take this professor for differential equations. He gives tests that no normal person can complete in the time allotted, and teaches the extra chapters on top of the normal ones, including ones that the math lab tutors cannot help you with. If you value your gpa, stay the hell away from this professor
