The exams contains all quiz questions that are either the same or reworded. His lectures get off topic so I rarely went to class, but he is hilarious. Everything (notes, quizzes, handouts) is on Blackboard. The class isn't super hard, but it's definitely not easy. If you are interested in philosophy, you'll be fine.

Lent himself is a great dude, but PHIL 1300 is a tough class. Unless you are required to take it or have a love for philosophy I do not recommend. The class is tough if you do not already know the material. Even after trying to teach myself I did not understand what the hell was doing on and dropped the class in Week 4.

This class was... interesting, hard to follow lectures, it seemed as if I could learn better and in a shorter amount of time if I used youtube videos, which was upsetting cause lent is a funny guy and his lectures were fun. all grades are quizzes and exams, but quizzes are completion. I hope to take a true philosphy class with Lent, this is math.

He is an aging hipster, a raging trickster and a helpful tipster. He keeps the class entertaining, and as long as you show up and ask questions you should be fine. He knows how to keep a party going.

Alfred is hilarious. He's well aware of what people say about him on this website and actually addressed the fact that he talks a lot on the first day of lecture (it's true, he does). It can be hard to hear him at times but if you sit in the front of the room you'll be fine. He's very smart and probably should be teaching to higher level classes.

This is so far the only class I would rather have taken in the classroom instead of online. He introduced each lecture with a podcast and with some sarcastic humor injected he makes it easy to listen. Sets clear expectations, and if you do your homework you do well. Very happy with his choice of smaller textbooks and doable volume of readings.

Lent is an extremely personable guy, he clearly loves his subject, and brings energy and humor into every class. That said, he does NOT cover material in a fair manner. His tests are filled with trick questions, and there is no way you could do well on an exam by simply taking notes from his lectures, you need to rigorously utilize outside sources

He seems like a super nice guy but he's weird. He does not explain concepts well. He goes on little rabbit trails when you ask him a question and ultimately forgets what he's even answering. I had to go to tutoring for someone else to teach me the material.

Easy. Only tough part was that an A was a 94. Go to class, he gives away exam answers sometimes, and he is fairly entertaining. Exams are nearly identical to online quizzes he gives out.

Literally went to like 4 total classes because every time I would try and go I would fall asleep. You can 100% teach the material better to yourself then he can teach you and all the notes/powerpoints/quizzes are online. I just showed up for the tests and got an A- in the class.

Dr. Lent is a very interesting person. The material is not the most interesting in the world, but he had funny stories and tried to keep the material interesting. The class is easy, I didn't show up most of the time but managed to get good grades. The notes are posted and the exams are the same as the quizzes posted online with a few words switched

The first exam has questions from the quizzes, the next three you need to study and even if you study he has questions that were not from the powerpoint.

Class is extremely lecture heavy. Lectures are often unorganized and hard to follow and he goes off on rants unrelated to philosophy. Has a weird lecture style but class is passable. Quizzes online have unlimited tries and often questions are copied and pasted on the tests but not always.

The content isn't necessarily hard, he is literally just insane. I know more about his life than I do about philosophy (his wife bought him a toolkit last Christmas.) He words things in really strange confusing ways and none of the content flows. Looking at this site I thought it would be an easy A, but everyone ive talked to agrees its impossible.

This class would be a lot more easier if his lectures werent just him rambling about random topics and his life. He gives you powerpoints to look off of but they are really unorganized. There are four exams, and a final that is cumulative. Also, he gives out BlackBoard quizzes which can be taken more than once to get 100%. Dont take this class.

Lent is a legend. He makes class enjoyable because he knows almost everyone enrolled is only there to fulfill a requirement for their major. For as complex of a topic as it can be, he does a good job of distilling it into easy-to-understand terms. Some will roll their eyes at his dry sense of humor, but it really makes class more bearable.

Lent is a really funny guy - took a poll on the first day of class to see how many people knew who Joni Mitchell was. A little fast because there's so much to cover, but it was easy to find someone to borrow notes from if you felt like you were missing something. The tests and grading were always really straight-forward.

If I were to write a movie script about the ideal college professor, Alfred Lent would be who I would model my character after. Professor Lent is a modern day philosopher who really wants to open the minds of those around him. He is engaging, funny, and knows his stuff. Lent was born to teach. Take his classes and groove with maximum hipness.
