I was doing fine with all my work through the quarter until the final exam. We only delivered speeches in class and no mid terms and hence the final exam was the first time we had to take a theory based test. I did not know what to expect on the test and I feel I could have done way better if I had more practice. Would not take this class again.

The final covers endless pointless classifications rather than things that will make you a good public speaker. My speeches were worse in this class than elsewhere because you have to submit a full sentence outline which gets stuck in your head, making it hard to speak naturally. If your department offers a class you can take instead take that.

Worse class ever. Honestly, Im not sure why this class is a requirement for so many majors. The lectures are a waste of time, and the only reason one would attend is for quiz points. You have to write two five page papers for a COMMUNICATIONS class and have a written final worth 1/3rd of your grade which I find really absurd.

One of the worst classes I have ever taken. Waaayyy too many requirements for a lower div intro class. Prof. Shubb is extremely punitive and goes out of her way to make the class excessively difficult. This was the first time in 3+ yrs. of college that I felt as though my prof. actually couldn't care less about her students. God, it was so bad...

Aight so here's the thing about lil miss Alisa's class. I wrote it as 4 for difficulty, not because the material was hard, but because her GRADING is the hardest thing ever. She told our TA he was being too easy despite all of us Rocking B's. She regraded our essays bc our sections average was a 42/50, which was 'too high' according to her. Wack.

Had to write 2 papers and give 3 class oral presentations. Also had some book work that was easy. But the lectures are absolutely the most boring of any professor. Final is exclusively based on class and book readings so always be on your work. Don't take this class take CMN 3 instead. Prof Shubb class not worth.

Prof. Shubb talks about her family and Argentine tango in her lecture. There are two papers required for this class - each should be five-page long- and nobody understands the vague rubric of the paper. She forwards your emails to everyone in the class, which does not align with my conception of personal email correspondence.

Lectures are boring! She just repeat what is in the textbook. Lecture quiz every week. The important thing is, I am a confident public speaker and I did every assignment carefully. But the final will kill you! Avoid her!

I do not agree that being a good speaker entails you doing well. I am a confident speaker with (before this class) straight As. The professor does not work primarily at Davis and it shows by her lack email responses.. If you can afford it, do not take Subuhi Khan (TA). She was very nice until after evals THEN grades harshly without warning.

The lectures repeat exactly what's in the book (which you have to buy) so they tend to be pretty boring. It's just one of those classes you have to take. If you're already fairly comfortable with public speaking then you'll do fine.

Lectures are rather dry regurgitations of the text. The material could have been condensed down to at most 50mins. Lecture doesn't prepare you for the final, which is a third of the final grade. The final itself is really specific. Skip the class and use the time to closely read the textbook. Low education value. Takes itself too seriously.

Read your textbook in and out - details matter. You're graded by only a few things, so your final counts for a serious portion and trust me, it'll trip you up. I personally didn't go to lecture because she taught exactly from the book. There were quiz questions (she gave the answer in lecture) and my friend group set up a group chat for them.

Like everyone has said, it is a ridiculous amount of work for a lower-division COMMUNICATIONS class. Grading depends on TA and Shubb is the most arrogant and self-righteous professor Ive every had the pleasure of meeting. Her final is 100 question, and worth 1/3rd of your grade (she even quotes herself in her final) Lecutres are useless.

Four speeches, 2 papers, one final with 100 questions. A lot of work for a lower div class. Do not go over the time limit for the speeches! papers are really easy to write in my opinion. But do take it seriously. Go over the entire book and do the study guide for the final. Listen to her examples in lectures cuz they will probably be on the final.

Final is worth a third of the course, so even if you've proved your speaking ability your grade can be tanked by not memorizing her textbook. Plenty of study guides and quizlets available, but her lectures are a waste of time and your grade will mostly depend on your TA. WAY harder than an intro course should be.

Way harder than any introductory class should ever be. If you come into the class without significant prior public speaking experience, or English is your second language, you won't be able to get an A. Textbook is rife with errors and made up words, lecture is a regurgitation of the book with a lot of self aggrandizement on the lecturer's part.

She makes you buy the newest version of her textbook, which is horribly written and quite expensive. The written final is worth the same amount as the two big speeches, which is ridiculous for a speech class. There are already made study guides out there that outline what you need to know on the final, study those and you'll be fine.
