If you don't do the weekly reading assignments you'll be very lost, but if you do all that she assigns it's definitely possible to get an A. She's pretty chill as a professor though, no unnecessary attitude or anything of that nature. The class is actually pretty interesting when you participate, which is necessary for a good grade.

Really great professor, if you ask for help and spend time in her office hours she will definitely help you. Her class is not hard at all if you're willing to do the work. It's not an easy A, but an A is possible.

If I talked to her outside of class then its fine, in class, its a nightmare. A lot of readings for one. She is a stickler when it comes to grading any form of papers. Try as you might to improve any paper or assignment, she will not improve it by much. In a sense, she makes you feel like you don't know as much as you do. Avoid her at all cost!!

I learned absolutely nothing in this class. All you do is read, then write an essay every week, and have class discussions. She isn't clear in any of her instructions, she'll just add extra things and claim you did not follow directions. She'll tear apart your papers and make you feel like an idiot. She also enjoys picking on students in class.

I did well in the class as an atheist conservative, so no one can really accuse her of bias. Her work excluding the main research paper is extremely light and easy to do well on. She's very helpful with the paper and really helped me grow as a writer. Her grading system for papers is extremely unclear, though, and made me think I got a C not an A-.

Too much "teaching" from the book. We discuss articles from two books that are clearly liberal in nature. Those same two books give a one sided approach to all the topics. When you add out of class information to the discussion that challenges points made in these books, you are shot down. I thought I was going to enjoy this class, I was wrong...

Dr. Parker is liberal, and it shows. If you understand that going in you will do just fine. I'm not a liberal, but I found her classes intellectually stimulating, even if I didn't agree with her philosophy. Oh, and expect a large dosage of race, class, and gender history.

Professor Parker is an extremely educated woman whose knowledge is incredible. Those who said that she lets her distaste for males and conservatives affect her grading are wrong. I am a Conservative male and I got an A in her class. Maybe those who complained about her already had their mind set against the course topic perhaps? Lots of reading.

Don't buy into the "she'll fail you if you aren't a liberal" because I am a conservative and got an A-. However, she is clearly a liberal and her view points are right out of the Berkley handbook. And she makes you read books that are written by liberal authors (2 of which reference her). Politics aside, She was a good teacher and was very helpful.

Pretty much the worst professor i've ever had. Assignments are vague and grading is even more so. I got C's on basically everything with little comments on why. Also, her class is with out a doubt the most boring experience of my life. i would rather drop out of school than take another class with dr. parker.

Let's be honest. It was my least fave class. You can only ask for help so many times & be shot down. She lacks tact. She teaches far too much out of the book & I feel as though I learn NOTHING.

Dr. Parker is extremely nice and understanding. She's energetic and sometimes that gets a little annoying because her class drags on. She loves to hear herself talk. Although, if you are interested in Modern America, she is probably one of the best professors for that subject because she really knows a lot and tries to keep everyone interested

Dr. Parker does not have a problem with men. That's just ridiculous. She's a great teacher and has mentored and advised many male students. Some people just get defensive when anyone dare look at women's history or confronts historical sexism. Get a grip.

For some reason, she seems to dislike men and conservatives... Often, she presents her slanted opinion as truth, but she respects, at least superficially, the dissenting opinion of the few brave conservatives who speak up in her seminars. She's a good person to talk to if you want to be a history lifer; she's well connected, and offers good advice.

Did the study abroad in London w/Dr. P and it was fantastic. Reading assignments and journal entries were a little heavy but SO worth the work, I wrote about 2 pages per response and did great. Very bright prof. Tried hard to plan everything out even if some of it seemed a little scatterbrained b/c we were in unfamiliar areas. Would recommend her.

Extremely bright, fun, interesting. Knows so much! Leads class discussion and keeps things moving in the right direction. Last two comments are hillarious. 30 pages of reading? OH NO !!!! Be happy that a teacher asks you to read as a part of your learning. So few majors actually require literacy skills. GREAT PROFESOR - Very fair

Extremely tough grader, I'm a history major who'd write one page responces to questions and get check minuses. The class shouldn't be that hard, but she makes it so. Readings are easy, lecture isn't all that exciting, can't say I recommend this class, esspecially if you want a good grade
