Dr. Risk is a really nice guy and helps you out but when it comes to over all instruction i have a hard time following and knowing exactly what to study for any lecture exam. he wants students to ask a lot of questions and really gets off topic easy. lab is fun but the memorization without a word bank is torture.

Comment:

Dr. Risk is a great teacher. He is caring. Attendance is not taken but missing often is not a great idea. I had to miss a couple of times and he was very understanding. Class is relaxed and interesting with a lot of projects. Tests are not bad if you study. Little amounts of homework. Grades notebook, 3 papers due (easy, 1 page), tests & quizzes.

He is so caring for his students and really knows what he is talking about. He moves pretty fast but as long as you are paying attention and pay attention to everything on the PowerPoints you are fine! He is very hands on!

He doesn't track attendance but if you miss it will be hard to pass. The only homework you will have (besides writing 3 1-pg papers) is finishing work not finished in class. He doesn't use blackboard for posting grades which is annoying because you never know exactly where you stand. I enjoyed the class and he's funny just be ready to study a lot.

Although he doesn't make attendance mandatory, if you skip class, you won't pass. He doesn't notebook checks and that's the majority of your grade. I think I would have liked this class more if it wasn't so long

Dr. Risk is my favorite professor at Morehead. I've taken him for Botany, Local Flora, Plant Phys, and he is my URF advisor. He is extremely passionate about students learning not only through the text but through hands on experience. He expects you to give a lot of effort but he is willing to help when you struggle.

I thought this class was great and I don't even like science! The professor made the lectures interesting. He post his power points on blackboard but you still have to go to class because he usually elaborates. He gives a good amount of exams and quizzes but not without warning. As long as you study hard, you'll get a good grade.

Biology 171 is a very tough course and I think that Professor Risk did his best to help his students pass. Be prepared to earn your grade you have quizzes every class and should really do the reading. His tests are hard so study! Also Risk loves diagrams so make sure you always study the diagrams first!!

If you're like me, when you see that you have to take a class on botany, you'll probably cringe from boredom. However, Dr. Risk made the field of botany extremely interesting from an ecological and evolutionary standpoint. He also incorporates local flora into his botany class to give you a more real-life feel of the subject. Thanks, Dr. Risk.

Good teacher, pretty interesting course. You get a lot of field days in the lab portion of the class, so that is a lot of fun! Not always the most clear teacher in the way he teaches but he tells you what you need to know in his round-a-bout way. Read the supplemental books but the textbook itself isn't used heavily. Pretty good professor overall.

Dr. Risk is an awesome professor! You can tell that he puts a lot of extra time into his field, and it makes a usually , not very entertaining classes, pretty exciting. There are a lot of "field" days which are good to get out of the classroom. Expects participation, and your grade depends on it!! All around, fun class, and great professor!

One of the best professors I've ever had. I love this man. He's hilarious and makes class interesting. Be prepared to work for your grade. His tests are challenging, but if you study the notes he gives you, you should do well. I highly recommend this professor.

He moves very quickly in lecture.There are difficult quizzes each class and the tests are very hard.I strongly recommend you take a chemistry course prior to taking this class- otherwise you will be lost almost immediately.I ended up dropping this class under him because I was doing so poorly.I have it under someone else now & have an A currently

Good teacher. Really interested in his field. He really uses the book ALOT! If you don't read the book you WILL FAIL!!! Very knowledgable in his area of study. He does expect alot from his students, so its not an easy grade, but you do learn.
