Comment:
Focuses on teaching in class but can be very open & personal after class time, really makes effort to prepare materials for each session, truely passionate about the subject and encourages her students to further study of East Asian by participating in extra-curricular activities. Demanding but encouraging & willing to offer help outside of class.

Very clear explanations and keeps good discussions going. Can seem cold, impersonal, or even intimidating at times, but nothing too bad. Manageable course load. Most of homework is reading, and selections are generally well-selected and worth reading, if not essential for active participation in class.

She's a tough cookie, so she can be pretty intimidating at first, but assuming you put forth the effort she expects, you'll be fine. great professor, and very helpful when discussing extracurricular academic opportunities.

She used to be distant and cold in my fist semester of chinese. now she's extremely helpful and amiable and everyone in the class loves her. her teaching maybe demanding but that advances your chinese skill a great deal.

Kinda surprised that there's so little positive here. I take Dooling for Chinese and though she can be distant and intimidating, she is plain and simple a very good teacher who is also super-nice if you stick around and demonstrate that you are invested in the class.

No interest whatsoever in teaching, though a good pedagogue when she tries, which is only when she thinks you're worth her time. Belongs at a major university doing research and avoiding students, not at a small liberal arts college. Constantly unavailable; two months to answer simple e-mail. Currently using maternity leave to teach in Beijing, rather than raise her child. Obviously sees time at CC another step in her own personal career. Brilliant but useless.

Prof Dooling is very demanding and holds you accountable for your own education. She will push you to your limits, with very few smiles. You will appreciate her persistence later in life. She's very serious about Chinese and unless you are too, I'd adv

Professor Dooling has a bit of a China complex, but that seems normal in non-native language teachers. She's a little unapproachable and thinks that her ideas are always right, but it has never been very bad.

A lecturer in Chinese lit, particularly women's, and an instructor in Chinese language. Prof Dooling, though knowledgeable and dedicated, can be difficult to work with and unaccepting of the study paths her student may choose, be they not women's lit.
