HIGHLY RECOMMEND. Kind and caring, very accommodating, goes out of her way to acknowledge and respect diversity and differences and to make sure everyone does well. A genuinely wonderful person. She does assign a lot of readings and sometimes goes off topic, but exams aren't bad as long as you study.

Good professor because she tells you what to study for exams, but tends to wander off in conversation, so class time is not used effectively. Too many extra readings, aside from the textbook, (sometimes 20+ pages each) for a 200 level class. If you can sit through dry lectures, do the readings and you'll pass.

I enjoyed being in Dr Palmer's class because she is very knowledgeable about her field and is able to explain complicated topics in a way that makes sense to someone who's never taken an Anthro class before. It was interesting to hear about her research. Pay attention to what she emphasizes in class and do the readings and you'll get a good grade.

Andie was a good professor. The class wasn't particularly difficult but she had a major tendency to get off topic and wander. Class discussions were common. There was a major writing assignment we did for the course that we had a lot of freedom for. Tests weren't difficult but they did require some studying.

I was really intimidated when i enrolled and sat through the first few classes. But with time you realize she is very thorough with her explanations (will spend extra time in class if needed to be explained) and is very clear on her expectations for her exams (study guides). Easy to talk to and really fair in her grading.

Great class. Palmer is hilarious and interesting and really made a boring, complicated subject seem important. Her lectures, though sometimes seemingly off topic, brought linguistics into the real world and made memorizing all the boring theory a lot easier.

She might not be a very good "teacher" in the classroom setting but the course material actually has cohesion if you follow the texts she assigns. I myself didn't read them until the day before the exams and still get an easy A. Focus on the notes and on Basso. If reading the texts, about 2 hours is good enough!

Andie is an amazing professor! She shows a tremendous amount of respect to both the material and her students. The lectures are engaging, as she uses power point slides with images from her fieldwork, and her personal excitement regarding the subject matter makes the class great... it rubs off too! She is also super open to helping outside class.

Her bubbly personality put me off at first, but I was impressed by how careful she was to present material as respectfully and clearly as possible. She goes beyond the call of duty to help her students - I missed a class once and she arranged to meet with me outside her office hours to help me catch up. One of the best profs I've had.

Bravo to whoever said that a baboon with a crayon would do a better job. She is an absolutely atrocious professor. Class was a) disorganized and b) unclear. She seemed more concerned about showing off aspects of her personal life to the class than actually TEACHING Aviod at all costs!!!!

I'm an anthropology student and this is one of the worst classes I have ever taken in the field. I don't see how it is related to anthropology at all, you would be better off taking a class in the linguistics department instead of this. She goes on about useless aboriginal languages that aren't relevant to what you are learning.

Incredibly brilliant, kind, helpful, and inspiring. Treats her students and her subject matter with great respect. One of the reasons I'm doing Grad work in Anthropology.

One of the kindest, most enthusiastic profs I've ever had. However, she does get off topic easily, making class often a little boring. Exams are very fair and uses lots of films and slides to make class more interesting. Would definitly recommend her.

She may be smart(and good at the grad level) but has horrendous teaching skills: condescending to her students and does not explain concepts clearly. There was little organization to her lectures. And she assigned almost 2 complete textbooks + more! Having her for a prof was a painful experience.

Smart. Saavy. Kind and concerned. Expert on oral history, socio-linguistics, Aboriginal issues and much more. Andie Palmer inspires. Patient and gracious-total professional in something called "scholarliness"--memorize that word.

This class had no direction. Topics were presented in an unconnected manner. The prof was enthusiastic, but she lectured too fast and presented theories in a way that suggested all of us had taken a 400 level linguistics course. I am very disappointed and want my $ back.
