Comment:

Hoffman has a dark sense of humor and repeats jokes a lot which can either make it enjoyable or annoy you. He is all about preparing you for University level writing so he does grade pretty hard. Definitely recommend building a relationship with him and getting on his good side. Put in the effort and you'll be fine.

He tries really hard to be funny. The class is lowkey boring. He gives really good feedback on essays and tells you exactly what to fix. I'm personally not a good writer, but managed to get an A, so it is not too hard.

I was weary of taking his class because of all the bad reviews I was seeing but I was pleasantly surprised that he wasn't as horrible as most people said he was. I think that most students just don't want to do all of the work he assigns. Sure he's tough, but he tell you exactly what he wants. Plus, he has a few good jokes.

A cynical man with a very rude disposition, I don't want to see this man again. He has talked about overweight people in class ad thought of it as humor. It is completely uncalled for. Please consider taking anyone but this guy if you have a busy schedule, he only likes his way and grades very rough, I had to drop the class because he is terrible.

I took Professor Hoffman's class as an 8 week summer course and it was terrible. I absolutely dreaded his class. Tells inappropriate "jokes" the whole class period and turns everything into some nasty sexual joke, even when it's not an actual part of the text... I would NOT recommend taking him, over 1/2 students who started the class dropped him.

he was overall pretty cool , he's constantly cracking jokes and wants everyone to laugh. he assigns many essays and he is a tough grader, does not give easy A's on essays.

I enjoyed his class so much that I would definitely take him again. He gives good feedbacks and he respects his students. Four essays for the entire semester, the last one will need a minimum of 3000 words. As long as you come to class and work for it, you would pass the class with no problem.

Prof. Hoffman's class is definitely not easy by any means, but I can honestly say that I am a better writer because of his class. You're going to have to work, and there is a lengthy paper due every couple weeks, but as long as you keep up with the interim deadlines, there should be no problem meating all the requirements.

Although I disagreed with the grading style, seems to be more focused on format than context, I learned a lot from this class. Definitely helped in building my confidence for writing college level papers.

I personally would not recommend this professor. First day of lecture he told us that he had a student who wrote perfectly but gave her a B because she was a boring writer. I thought we were here to learn how to write probably not entertain our professors...

Loved the class. Only thing your graded on is a few quizzes and 4 essays. Conferences were nice and friendly. As long as you don't skip class and you genuinely put effort on proposals and essays, you will pass with no problem. Very nice and funny guy! Would totally take again!!

I took Eng 101 with Professor Hoffman. There's a lot of reading to write the essays. The readings were easy. Due dates are short, but if you don't procrastinate, you'll do it on time and get a good grade. He's very helpful and funny. Show up to class because assignments in class are easy to get points!

All he does is talk about politics which are not related to coursework. Trump this or Obama that. He is also very biased according to his views. His class is relatively difficult but his head is so far up the democratic party's you know what. I cant stand professors that bring their political views to class. He gets an F in my grade book.

He is a tough grader when it comes to essays other wise he is ok. He didn't accept 2 of my assignments because I was late to class by a few minutes which made me get a C in class. I'm sure there are better professors than him at Mesa College

Pretty good professor. Pretty tough class. 4 essays; 2x 1500 word, 2000 word, 3000 word. If you just do what he says in his guidelines you will do alright. He pretty much won't fail your essays unless you purposely cheat. No exams. All of the little assignments in class are very easy A's. Just make sure you show up everyday. Too many Trump Jokes!!!

Initially I found Hoffman's 205 class grading criteria intimidating. If you have poor writing skills this is not the class to take. Want to wait to write a 2000 word essay paper 2 nights before? Not for you. He is , however, a terrific instructor. If you wish to prepare yourself for University writing assignments. I highly suggest his class.

Good class. I learned a lot. On first day I was intimidated by the sheer volume of the work he expected- thought I was in over my head. Put in the work, do the reading. You'll do a 600 pg essay every week on the readings and a tough bluebook midterm and final. Who thought Brit Lit could be interesting? Hard work but you'll appreciate it in the end
