Don't understand all the negative feedback. Wiese is an amazing professor & is very passionate about what he teaches. It's lecture based so it can get boring at times, but not a hard class & he doesn't expect much from his students. All the people complaining are probably freshman who took him their first semester & thought they were still in HS.

Prof. Wiese is very willing to help, open to opinions and discussions, and is very considerate. However, considering his class is a GE class, I think he demands too much. Readings can sometimes go to 60-70 pages a week, and reading questions and midterms are graded so strictly it's simply ridiculous. He is an eloquent speaker though.

This class was the worst class I've ever had. Mandatory attendance in a 500 level, really? I did not learn one single thing and I tried, and I got good grades, but i still really disliked this class. Prompts had like 700 questions in them! impossible to answer them well. Do not take him unless you absolutely have to.

I wonder what happened after 2004. Seems like all of his reviews used to be positive. This is my favorite era in History and was extremely disappointed with the layout of the class. It was unclear and unorganized. Mandatory attendance at a 500 level course is ridiculous. Essay grading was degrading. Assigned group project using Micro Fiche

I dreaded this class. It was awful. The class consists of a lot of talking, and it always was very boring for me. Reading is mandatory in order to do well in the class. A lot of your grade is participation. He wants EVERYONE in class to talk. Only take if you have to...

This class requires effort and a lot of reading. Attendance is mandatory. For summer session had quiz weekly, 5 pg paper (about 300pg book we had to read) and final. People complain about tests but if you study what is emphasized in class you'll be fine. Also, follow directions exactly on tests or you'll lose points. Good speaker.

Very very hard teacher. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! Although I did receive an A- it was no easy work. The midterm and final are ridiculous 5 essays in 50 min and for the final its cumulative with 2 hours to write 5 essays + a 1 very long essay. You have to teach yourself. His "lectures" are equivalent to speeches, it's almost impossible to take notes.

Don't take him unless absolutely necessary. Skip lecture. Just read the book and go to discussion. Midterm is five short essays in 50 min; final is five short essays + one longer essay in 2hrs. You don't know the questions beforehand so don't take him if you're a weak writer. Assignments include weekly reading responses and an essay.

Wiese is a good guy, but his lectures are almost sermon-like and dreadful. This class has an immense amount of reading and the majority of your grade is based on writing. Didn't learn much, and too time consuming to recommend unless absolutely necessary.

Very intelligent profesor, but doesn't always know how to channel it. There was a confusion on what he wanted versus what the assignment said. No tests, just lots of writing. Class was tolerable, interesting essay on Old Town San Diego. Overall good professor, just difficult to give him exactly what he is asking for.

He is one of the worst teachers at state. He assumes everyone knows what he is talking about but in reality know one has any idea what he says. TA's are useless and you read way to much. DON'T TAKE THIS TEACHER!

this guy seriously thinks that he is the only class you have. Reading every week takes about 4 hours plus questions in response to the reading. Attending lectures is mandatory and the most boring hour of your life! my TA was good but was an extremely harsh grader. After taking this class I hate history even more!

This is a tough class but I learned a lot. I would recommend him to others but you definitely need to attend the lectures and discussions sections. I found the TA to be top notch. Wiese is a solid story teller and knows his subject well. Plan on doing some serious writing too!

history class is the lease informative hist class I have ever taken. It skips all the important events such as WWI and WWII and if discussed he only states the negative outcomes and how the US screwed up. U must go to class 3 times a week, you do not need to read the books until the test and you better do well on the essay b/c it is diff

easy class as long as you pay attention, do the one essay and study for the 2 exams. you could actually get an A without even going to the lecture and just studying the review sheet. overall good hearted cool guy.
