I prefer if this class was taken on campus rather than online. He responds to your emails a little late, so I prefer to talk to him during office hours. Plan ahead of the reading as each week is a chapter and then a response to that chapter. He does provide extra credit, so that would boost your grade if you are close to the next letter.

Don't really know much about the professor because I took this online. But the course itself was decent. A lot of reading and an exam every 4 chapters. Forum discussions are a major key to your grade. I don't recommend procrastinating on the reading. Overall, I'm glad I took this online and not on campus.

There are forum discussions that you must do to pass the class, there is also a 10 page paper on a case study of your choice. Super caring professor. Every time I had a question he was always available. He did cancel a couple classes but they were due to family emergencies. Attendance is mandatory counts as participation points.

class is very chill, came here and literally did not read a single chapter and still got an A. all you need for this class is show up each class, and try to stay awake for one hour. one paper only due at the end of class and one forum post. total work hours for this course is about 4 hours total. totally would take this prof again haha

Honestly, super easy class. It's online, even the exams, everything. I'm telling you, easy A! it says you need a textbook, but NOPE. save your money for another class cuz i never touched mine. you can get away with forum posts every week by just basing your post off of what others say. TAKE IT.

cool laid back professor. Take his class if you're going to participate he is very knowledgeable but students who don't participate in discussions bring down the class. people take advantage and sleep through his class but miss out on how experienced and educated this man is. you'll learn more if you wish to in his classes if not just gtfo.

He's awesome, I've had him for two classes & enjoyed both. Interesing, very relaxed, and knows what he's talking about. No mid-term or final. We had to do 3 reading responses but could turn them in at any time through out the semester.

The class and the teacher is easy, however the class is worthless. There are no tests in the class and your whole grade relies on your research paper. He does take attendence, but as there are no tests and the paper is due the last day of class, you do not need to show up to pass the class.

Very cool class. We were the first class for this section so rules were flexible. He is very sincere and helpful. I am awful in this subject and thought it would be terrible. He made the class very interesting, challenged my views of SD. He involves the class in discussions and listens to debates. Several papers willing to help.

I agree with the previous comment, he is a little weird but when you get to know him he is really down to earth kind of guy -- and yes! there is no excuse for not doing well in his class he preps for his test and says pretty much what's on the test. I can't imagine anyone failing this class.

Yeah he's boring, yeah he shows up late, and yeah he seem's a little cold, but if you want an A, this is the guy. I was in the class where 1/3 of the class failed the midterm but I have no idea why, it was so easy. The tests are right from the lecture, there is no excuse for getting less than a B. Talk to him after class, it works.

Poor guy! I just think he is really depressed. I was in his class and he couldn't make it through the final(so we had a sub on that day). Prof.Yanez-Chavez had to go to Mexico to go see his mother who was critically ill in the hospital there(I think she died). Nice guy but really seems very sad! I hope he can find happiness again!

The subject matter was very interesting (US/Mexico Border class), and the exams were both take home. However, he was usually late to class the second half of the semester. He's a very mellow guy and took an interest in my beaing able to possibly make a video documentary about oen of the topics in the class. I would Recommend his GEOG 450 class!!

This class is intended for those students who can selfteach themselves and can keep up with independent work. It is a very easy class, just sit there study from the text's website do a small presentation some easy papers and you should be able to get an A. He is an easy-going kind of guy.

This class is very hard because there is a lot of reading so leave a lot of time in your schedule...there are weekly minipapers which he doesn't explain very well till you ask him. Hes very good if you ask questions so just try to let him know you need the help..i don't know about tests cuz i'm still in his class but the lectures are very monotone boring and makes you go to sleep...read the book that's all i say...
