Comment:

Bob, as he goes by, is respected and well-known in statistics circles and he definitely knows his stuff. Sometimes that means he makes the material too challenging or theoretical though. Be sure you understand concepts and theorems for the exams, and he loves people who go to his office hours. His cartoons and jokes are in a class of their own.

If you like a prof who knows what he's talking about Dasgupta is your way to go. That being said, his exams have nothing to do with what he teaches in class and they're incredibly difficult. His handouts help you understand the material well but it still won't help you with the exams.

Amazing Statistician but terrible professor. I do not recommend taking this class. He makes you hate probability. He is the most difficult grader. Even office hours are not useful as he cannot understand your question. His teaching is all over the place and he gets distracted from the topics very easily. Take any other professor, just not him.

No notes published, practice exam not a good indicator of exam material, it is wise to go to office hours, tends to discuss random stats history, some of which shows up on exams. handwriting is okay at best, sometimes hard to hear what he is saying, he is also extremely hard of hearing, so speak loudly.

Bob is great. I just wish he had a better webpage, I find it difficult to learn when I don't know where to access information about the class. The material itself is pretty abstract, but his explanations are good. Some complain of an accent, however I've never had issues understanding him. Bonus: he is an artist.

Hes extremely old school and does not know how to use the internet. His addiction to diet coke and love for William Feller has made him a spoof. Extremely tough grader and its hard being a weekend warrior in his class as you wont have easy access to any solutions.

Dr. Bob was an excellent teacher and definitely helped clear up the information I didn't learn in STAT 416 (from Anastasia... run if you get her!). His jokes, although sometimes lame, were refreshing, and he was always very helpful in office hours, and he really wants his students to succeed.

An extremely unhelpful, biased and a prejudiced person. He has some sort of inferiority complex, since he talks about his culture and his people all the time. His jokes are as lame as he is. He should seriously improve on his jokes, stop sniffing in the class and correct his accent. Instead of wasting time on his lame ass jokes he should teach.

I LOVE DASGUPTA!! He has GREAT odd mannerisms and I'D GIVE MY LEFT LEG TO BE IN HIS CLASS AGAIN! His chronic sniffing is beautiful and it kept me alert during the grueling stat power hour. He has the voice of an angel!!
