I took this class first semester freshmen year and it was my hardest class. You have to read out of the two textbooks A LOT and if you don't then you are already behind. Then all she does is a lecture - no slides no nothing. Also, she is Polish so she is super tough & u dont really know your grade bc she doesnt use blackboard or anything

She cares about history a lot, but shes a very difficult teacher. You need to read a lot and pay attention to her lectures and study hard because she only give multiple choice exams. Took this class for credit / no credit because it was so challenging.

I did not like her class. If you answered a question and did not say the right answer she would make me feel dumb and I did not want to answer another question. I had a funeral to attended too and she still took points off my grade. I have to Learn the material myself because she makes class very boring. Choose another professor for this class.

I've taken Prof. Kirchmann's HIS 121 before. An A grade is this simple: read the material assigned (she'll mark you if you did not read--she can tell), be prepared to participate in discussions (she likes resourcefulness), do your work well, and be on time (she will mark you absent if you walk in after your name was called). She is very fair.

I am a history major and really enjoy her, but many non-history majors have told me they hate her. She is TOUGH, but she knows what she is talking about and teaches the material SO well. Still, it REALLY helps to do the reading. Also, participation is basically a must. She keeps track of how many times you participate, and will like you WAY more.

She is a very nice professor but can also be mean at times. Go to her office ours because she will like you a lot more and maybe even learn your name. The tests are just 20 multiple choice that aren't hard if you read the chapter and use the online resources. DO NOT use your phone or chew gum or she will kick you out. Join in class discussions too.

HIGHLY recommend class with her. I wasn't really interested in history before I took Recent American with Dr. Kirchmann, but now I love it. If you pay attention, show up to class, and read the material, the class should be extremely interesting. She is open to any questions, will explain everything clearly, and is always at her office hours.

She was not helpful at all. All she does is lecture and give test. Her jokes are dry... The only way you will pass this class is by talking in class to get a "plus in a circle". Love history HATED her class! Do not take it if you can.

I love her! Yes, she is difficult, but this is college...As long as you participate, do your work, come prepared, and respect her, you'll be fine. She is more than willing to help when you ask for it and she's a very good resource. It is possible to get an A, as long as you read from the text, take notes, and pay attention. Highly recommended!

I love Dr.Kirchmann. BUT I am a history major. She can be overly strict in terms of chewing gum, and walking in front of her while she is teaching but her strictness makes people listen. If you love history you'll find that she's very calm when the subject is fragile and gains energy as the subject becomes heated - a quality of a good teacher.

Very hard to understand, she stands in the front of the room and reads off overhead slides. we basically had to teach ourselves the material. Would not recommend this class to anyone.

Dr. Kirchmann is a tough professor. I didn't know what taking her class meant. There are quizzes and tests every week, 2 days after a midterm there was test. She lectures the whole class, put a outline of the overhead, expects you to hear everything and write it down. Not a fan of History.

Dr. Kirchmann is very strict, but she knows her stuff. It takes her a while to warm up to her students, but by the end of the class I took with her she was Joking around with us. Dr. Kirchmann is an awesome professor, and if any one has an intrest in immigration history or women take her class. She Rocks!

Class was pretty boring, mostly just a lecture. Sometimes her accent is hard to understand. The only thing she'll accept for an absense is if you die. Make sure you ask class mates homework you miss because she wont tell you. Very unhelpful when you need advice! Cant eat, chew gum, or breath in her classroom.

Dr. Kirchman isn't too bad of a teacher. Mostly lecture although she does like discussions some times. Tests can be a little ridiculous but some aspects of her grading system make up for low test grades. Overall not too bad. Doesn't handle immaturity well and don't chew gum or crack your knuckles. Otherwise you'll get along great with her.
