If you mess up in a speech, she points it out and talks about it for the rest of the semester. On the last day of class, she was still telling everyone how bad my very first speech was. It was very disrespectful unprofessional of her! It is clear, that if she doesn't really like you, she will not listen to what your opinion is.

I actually like Dr. Holmquest. I don't play sports, or do anything involving Northern. Holmquest always remembers my name and talks to me outside of class. Her teaching method is bizarre, but her points are clear to me and she keeps me entertained, to say the least. My speeches are improving and her feedback is helpful. She is calmer 1 on 1.

To say Dr. Holmquest is the worst professor I've ever taken would be an understatement due to giving her credit as a legitimate professor. She is inept to teach or communicate to students. I am appalled to see at this level of academia that there is a professor such as her. If reaping the benefits of a quality education is important, avoid her.

at first I was afraid B/C I heard a lot about her. other professors who teach the same class give extra points on tests but they give final test "essay". she doesn't give final test if you have A. she is very nice if you don't miss any class. All my classmates who didn't miss any class got A. She likes to makes the class work together in funny ways

Bad speech class. If you are sick make sure you know ahead of time. You can't make up anything unless you call her before you get sick. She won't help you catch up on anything. her analogies are irritating I cant understand her half the time. She assigns homework without telling anyone. She also plays favorites to the football players.

This class is in no way like a speech or communications class. She is very hard to understand. Teaching method is really stupid and uses so many pointless analogies to describe one thing. She picks out favorites from day 1 in class and if she doesn't like you watch out! I highly recommend not getting her as a speech professor.

Dr. Holmquest shows clear favoritism to those who play school sports. For anyone else, nothing is ever good enough. She does not care about what you feel, and will embarrass you (as if speech isn't bad enough) in front of the class. Even though we are in COLLEGE she doesn't allow you to talk about controversial topics. WORST CLASS I'VE EVER TAKEN

Horrible. It is ironic that she is in the communications department because nobody can ever understand exactly what it is they are supposed to do. She uses pointless, not to mention very strange, analogies that have nothing to do with the task at hand. The class was very frusterating, but if you know how to give speeches, you should be fine.

Comment:

For being a speech class, she never let me be very creative. For the persuasive speech, I did a good satire speech and argued a point of my own (rather than arguing someone else's point) and added humor and she frowned upon both. It had to follow the strict guidlines. I had to redo the whole thing. And instead of clarifying, she'll just repeat.
