Comment:

I took Astronomy 101 in 1976 and, so fascinated by it, took 102 the next semester. Dr. Aveni, his warmth, humor, & ability to convey the awesomeness of the subject matter, helped to make my years at Colgate unforgettable. He has been an inspiring force in my life ever since, as I continue to look up at the night sky, marvelling and grateful.

Took several classes with him. I also went on two month-long study groups abroad. Tony is tremendously inspiring and doesn't pull punches. He was my first mentor and was also my advisor for my topical major in Prehistory. I graduated in 1983 but have stayed in touch. An amazing man and thinker.

Difficult class, but he helped out a lot. I really enjoyed his class because he made it fun and interesting. He was always available during office hours and was willing to help me whenever I needed it. I highly recommend him!

Aveni is the man. In class, he is interesting, funny, and engaging. He's extremely helpful in office hours and will spend hours helping you understand the material or just talking. Don't miss a chance to take a class with this Colgate legend. Tons of classes is the vislab doesn't hurt either...

Took him for Astronomy & Culture to fill distribution requirement. He is the man! Definiely harder than I thought it would be and ultimately it all comes down to the test grades so don't take him if you are a horrible tester. Always available for office hours and willing to explain everything you don't know. fair grader. Do the readings!

Aveni is the man. He's really funny, helpful, and clear in his lectures. He is incredibly helpful in office hours and seems to truly care about his students. Do not graduate without taking a class with him--one of the best at Colgate.

Aveni is amazing! He is knowledgable, passionate, clear, and has a sense of humor. He goes out of his way to make lectures entertaining. He has a way of making you learn something, even if you really aren't trying to. Loved the class. But, his tests are HARD and they account for 1/3 of your grade- so it's really easy to fail.

I took Prof. Aveni's class in 1994-1995. One of the few teachers I have ever had that truly deserves to be called a teacher and a professor. He just absolutely amazing. If we had a world of peopel with this much integrity and humor and caring things would be really good. ~ liz brown

he is one of my favorite teachers of all time. makes class so interesting with little games and demonstrations. i was in a class of 100+ people and he knew everyones name within the first few weeks. makes you feel great about yourself. he is so passionate and knowledgeable about his topic its scary.

Archaeoastronomy is a must-take, even if you aren't into astronomy or mesoamerican cultures. He's considered one of the best professors in the country. He has more energy than I do, and he's old enough to be my grandfather. What more need I say?
