Dr. O'Malley really looks deep into the reasons for why people believe in the theoretical perspectives they do. He really wants people to question why fundamental theories are the way they are. Best prof in the IDS dept.

Expects a lot from his students and can be frustrating at times as he questions everything you say but makes you think a lot deeper and more critically. Encourages opinions on sensitive topics, looks at it from all angles. Classes are a must he never uses brightspace, and the readings can be long and exhausting. All in all I enjoyed the class

Professor O'Malley is one of the best professors I have ever had at SMU! He is extremely knowledgeable in the IDS field but does not intimidate students with his expertise, it is simply inspiring. He definitely expects a lot from his students and challenges them, but isn't that what a real prof and course should do?

Did he actually "teach" your course? I had a course with him and "we" taught the course. He never handed back any of the assignments and seemed annoyed later on when a follow up was required to clarify the final mark. Not a mean guy but definitely not one of my favorites...

O'malley is fantastic. I really look forward to coming to his class. He is intimidating in his intelligence and experience, but is easily approachable and is very friendly. He makes it easy to learn. There is lots of reading in this class. It feels like he's a benign uncle that you want to impress.

He is demeaning and condescending to his students.This is really too bad because the IDS program should be there to inspire students not suppress them.He has a huge ego, watch out!It is too bad that people like him are actually allowed to teach in the educational system. His classes were mainly a repeat of everything I already learned in IDS.

One of the best profs I have ever had (and I have a had a lot). Awesome, engaging lecturer. Funny as hell too. Be prepared to do a great deal of reading. The weekly reading packages had some serious weight!

He didn't have any text books for either class so you had to attend everyday. If you didn't you were lost. Very interesting, he has great stories. I'd definetly take his class again. Hard marker. Make sure you're comfortable with the material before exams.

Best teacher I have ever had. Learned the most in his class out of all classes I have ever taken at SMU. Has high expectations of students, which is a nice change. Exams are TOUGH. Funny, worldly, above all extremely intelligent. Tells it like it is.
