Comment:
I had to take HIST207 for my GC KCA and man ... it sucked. We had a ridiculous amount of homework (one weekend it was 2 full-length movies, 2-40 min long documentaries, and 3 readings), and his lectures typically didn't relate to the homework at all. He gave study guides for his tests, but they were SO LONG that they were barely effective.

I had Prof. Liu for gender family and society in modern china, and the class was super difficult, but very worthwhile. the material was amazing, and he totally knows his facts. Loved this class. Gave two exams- essay style, and one 20 min presentation, with a 10 ish page paper. Homework every class.

A really horrible professor, I would avoid taking his courses at all costs. I took a 3 hour Thursday course and it was really just a waste of my time. He was not understanding about students missing classes, mandatory group projects that you present to the class (one group per week), and way too much reading. Relies too much on the book and videos

While he really knows his subject, he has a tendency to go on long tangents and skip around during lectures. It makes him very confusing. He has a habit of adding or changing assignments as the last minute which is very frustrating.

A great professor who is willing to answer any questions you may have. He assigned a lot of readings and like previously mentioned, he likes people being engaged in class. Don't hesitate to ask him questions; he's really nice.

I had very little knowledge of Chinese history or culture going into this class. His lectures, while they move incredibly fast, are really interesting and informative. I feel like I know much, much more. He assigns tons of reading, but covers most of the things you need to know in class. He loves when you speak up in class.

Professor Liu is pretty cool. He's funny, easy to understand, and very knowledgeable about both Japanese and Chinese. He usually has quizzes on Tuesday and homework due Thursday, so you cannot miss class. It isn't hard with minimal studying, but exams are easy to bomb. However, the textbook he uses is HORRIBLE. AWFUL. THE WORST I'VE EVER HAD. AGH!

he tries to come off as tough...so much so that it takes away from one's ability to learn from him. books and students are interesting though. funny stories.

Interesting class, Liu was knowledgable, fair + willing to help. However, sometimes hard to understand (not the accent, but his directions), not very clear/specific. Overall a good experience.
