Dr. Villa is a great professor. He loves what he teaches so much, which is clear in how he teaches. Whether you have music experience or not, Villa sincerely wants every student to get a good grade and he's really accessible if you need help. The grade is based on tests and a few pop quizzes at the beginning of the semester. Don't skip class!

Class consisted of 3 tests and the final, 1 quiz, 1 HW assignment and a Concert Report. The class was really simple and as long as you payed attention and studied the material you'll be fine. Took a while to respond to emails but was a good professor. Don't be worried if you never studied music or played an instrument before, its not necessary.

Dr. Villa is a fair, yet tough grader, but if you study and pay attention in class, you will do very well on his tests. He is very approachable and willing to help. There is only reading for homework, which you do not need to do, and a concert report due on the exam day.

He is a great teacher for the music theory classes and is a nice guy, but DO NOT TAKE HIM FOR ELECTRONIC MUSIC STUDIO. He is an EXTREMELY tough grader and this class consumed all of my time because of the ridiculous amount of work he assigns. This is one of the hardest classes I have ever taken. Please DO NOT TAKE THIS class with him.

Very good teacher. He is always around to help you out. No matter what level you think you are in music, he will be able to help you learn and understand the topics. He is VERY musically talented. He truly cares for each student, and takes time to make sure you're understanding the topics. I highly recommend taking his class.

Have taken a class of his every semester. One of the most cheerful professors I've ever had, uses humor to put students at their ease. So dedicated and passionate. Very approachable, will try a million ways to explain something till you get it. Specifically tells class to ask questions. Loves his job, really cares about his students, and it shows.

Dr. Villa is very nice and brilliant but if you have little or no musical experience the class is very difficult. He is a rough grader and his teaching style, as well as the textbook, did not help me much at all. I only did well in the class after I stopped studying class notes and started using outside resources to learn everything.

Hardest grader in my college career. If you know music you'll do great. If you have no knowledge - hard to keep up. Does not require you to do alot of work or assigments but test are very difficult and you actually have to study alot! Grades really hard - no partial credit. Takes off for freakin spelling in a music class....nice guy tho.

Awesome teacher. Music background makes his music fundamentals class a breeze. Never assumes you know something when you walk in, always takes it from scratch. Very accessible as a professor and as an advisor. Highly recommend him.

This is a great and fun class to take and it fulfils the arts core. He is an awesome guy and a great teacher. He makes sure that you learn the material, and really wants his students to succeed. Our first quiz was a clapping quiz! Easy class, an easy B+/A- with minimal work. Take him!

The man at Loyola. Best professor I have so far. Great class for fine arts core. No musical background necessary. Makes music much more enjoyable. Helps you as much as you want him to. Tests are not very difficult, and there aren't many quizzes.
