Comment:

She has been a major influence in my life. I value the hard work I put into her classes. You can't slide by her classes; you won't slide by in her classes. To quote her: "How can you teach if you don't know what you are teaching?" I think this can apply to anything one does, and whenever I'm feeling lazy about my work, I think about her. Work hard.

She is one of the best teachers I have ever had. She is professional, organized, knowledgeable, fair and very intelligent. I enjoyed her classes a lot and she became a role model for me. I am a teacher and she might not know this, but she has inspired me in many ways. Take her classes. You will learn a lot.

She was a really good professor! Although she is a hard professor, she's fair. If you put in the work, you'll get an A. If you don't, I would expect that you don't get a very good grade. However, I think she's one of the professors who are most likely to stick with me.

Dr. Meier is one of those professor who really does its job! she might be hard on students but she is the one that will make you learn! I took her SLA class with other Grads. I believe she prepared us well for the COMPS. she teaches you what really matters! read and do homework! she makes you talk every class!! Best professor ever!

I first took Intro to Linguistics with her & thought she was way too strict. I am now in my 4th class with her & love her! If you keep up with the assignments readings, you will learn a LOT & if you show her respect she will appreciate it & reciprocate it. She is challenging, but it's for your own good. She also has great stories!

Dr. Meier's class is the one where you learn a lot. She is one of the most dedicated teachers I have ever met. She corrects all your papers thoroughly. So if you don't want your papers to be corrected, then don't take this class. I had a difficult time, but it was all worth it. She made me realize how much I need to improve. I am grateful for this.

The additional packet was disorganized and seemed outdated. Use of the book was constant. The midterm is massive. Show up, do the readings, do the homework, be ready for sharing in discussion, show your interest in class, that's all she asks for. She's a reasonable professor.

If you're not keen to learn, not keen to produce quality work, not keen to be in college, please don't take this class. Having said that, she's the kind of prof I think what a college prof should be, she's serious abt work, gives appropriate info, gives reasonable expectations, she's not a hard person to deal with. I've learned a lot from her.

I was surprised by the comments about Meier being a man-hater & very surprised to see people say she likes to mean. The only way she's mean is by expecting you to have done the homework. She is very smart and doesn't like it when you slack off, but if you keep up with the work you will learn a lot and she will turn out to be a really good professor

Class is very difficult, She spends the majority of class time takling about her self and traveling and all her diverse friends. Reading, tests and requirements for this class are very difficult. She is really knowledgeable. And I agree that whether she is nice or not depends on your attitude. If you do wanna learn something useful, you shouldn't miss her. She is not an easy breezy prof, but I decided I liked her. I have been taking classes from her for a while now. She is tough, but very knowledgeable. She knows what she knows- but she really stinks as a teacher. She will not teach to the students just provide unreasonably long tests worth ridiculous points. Most of her classes she holds ALL students to a Graduate level instead of undergrad. She enjoys letting the students know she is better then they are through failures and mocking in class.

A lot homework, but none of it was that bad. You use the textbook alot, but it is easy to follow. I hated the class the first couple of weeks but torwards the end semester I really enjoyed it. She can be really Funny! She is also very understanding and will help you out when you need it.

It's the itch word with a B. Not a nice person. Way too much reading on an obscure area of linguistics. Take class over ICN (thru Continuing Ed) instead. Call her a "lady" just to see how she reacts! She'll go nuts.
