I still tell anyone I know will be going to OC to take a class with Wix, because I enjoyed his class very much. Just looked through the fall catalogue though and it doesn't look like he's teaching, from what I could tell. I'm sure he's having a blast somewhere enjoying Elvis' birthday! Very ecclectic and fun character.

Wicks was a complete lunatic! Had us read a horrific book about mutilation, never showed up, openly insulted us in class. Gave almost no requirements, then gave half the class C's because their papers weren't over 10 pages.

Art Wicks is insane! You won't skate by his English class like you would in his creative writing courses because he works you to the bone. He will read your essay in front of class and humiliate you without thought. He cancels class a lot, but I can't complain about that! I think you learn something from him without really realizing it!

Wicks is fantastic - although he is crazy. It's true that he swears in class, picks on the students, takes random days off (like Elvis's birthday). However, he actually taught me how to write an essay. If you want to actually learn and not be coddled, this is the teacher for you.

1 paper rewritten lots. got frustrated with him not showing up, couldn't even turn my work in for a while. lets class out early, class material has little to do with the assignment, optional to show up. he is a hippie. he picks on people in class in a joking way, tho i don't think they appreciate his humor. will humiliate students in front of class

Art Wicks... what can I say? He is very cool! Although he missed a lot of class and always let us go early, he still taught a great deal about life and his experiences. Very fair with grading and is very clear of expectations. He is worth taking!!

borderline crazy but this teacher rocks...showing up to class is optional but you find yourself looking forward to class all week and once youre there he never fails to brighten your day and make you laugh...his biting honesty and down to earth attitude make for a good teacher and great class...highly recommended...

I took two of his classes and they were a lot of fun. Expect to have lots of days off and be able to leave class early. If you want an easy grade, this is the professor you want to have. He has an interesting sense of humor. He likes to joke a lot but it's all in good fun. Wrote 1 paper for 102 and got a 4.0 after 2 wks I was done w/ the class.

Professor Wicks is the best English teacher i ever had. He is really funny and tells interesting stories. It is very easy to pass his class; you just need to do whatever work he assigns. He is a really nice man! I would recommend him to anyone!!!

Very easy class, Professor Wicks is very entertaining and if you site examples in your papers, you will get a very good grade. I also had him for Engl. 102 and liked the class very much. You do not learn a lot, but in Hum. 257 (Rock and Roll) I felt I gained more knowledge of rock and roll and its forefathers and history. I would recommend taking him for as many classes as you can!!!

He is the WORST teacher I in my 6 years of College. I came back to O.C. to take a writing class & on day 1 he anounced that I could read ONE poem- even something I wrote years ago, and would receive a 4.0. He TAUGHT NOTHING, when he bothered to show up. I DROPPED this slacker class, and he *STILL* gave me an 'A'! Don't take this class!

Wix is without doubt the best teacher I have ever had the pleasure of encountering in any of my educational experiences ever. He is a captivating presence, and I found his creative writing workshop-styled class to be very helpful for writers. Rather than providing instruction in a class like creative writing where it's really inappropriate, he instead uses the workshop-style to the benefit of the class and to the benefit of the student's writing.
