He's a great guy and his lectures are easy to understand. Attendance isn't mandatory, but if you don't usually go to class you won't do well on tests. The book doesn't cover everything he talks about in class, but you need to read it. The assignments are fairly interesting and not too tough, and the tests aren't bad if you go to class & study.

I cannot say enough good things about Professor Raney. Any one even remotely interested in communication would do well to take his class. Dr. Raney is energetic crystal clear, and readily available to discuss thing he doesn't cover (rare!) Tests aren't difficult if you PAY ATTENTION IN CLASS and READ THE BOOK.

Dr. Raney is a wonderful teacher. He is clearly passionate about the subject matter he teaches. There are 3 easy non-cumulative exams given. Though attendance isn't mandatory, attending class and reading the textbook will get you an easy A.

Dr. Raney's class is great, very interesting information. His teaching style is engaging, not to mention he's not bad to look at :) Absolutely a professor crush- great smile and personality. Charismatic and adorable.

While some of the exams were difficult, the course wasn't too bad overall. Professor Raney was really funny and obviously cared about the subject matter. I rarely attended the lecture (seriously, only to complete an assignment) and I didn't read much of the text. I was able to finish the semester with a B-. Overall, I recommend this course!

He makes the class very entertaining, especially when the material may not be so entertaining otherwise. His tests require knowledge of the in-class material as well as the textbook. You really have to know/cover everything to get A's on the exams, but it is definitely not impossible.

I love professor Raney! If you want to get an "A" in his class you must read the chapters that he assigns because people who struggled in his class didn't read the assigned chapters. Take notes in class as well because some things he says in lecture will be on the test but not on the slides that he post. :]

The class was quite interesting. We learned a lot of material and had 3 tests. There is an essay on the test and Dr. Raney grades somewhat tough. He maintains a fun atmostphere and you learn a lot! There is also a group project with a paper and presentation but it is not bad. I would recommend taking him!

Fun class, Dr. Raney always keeps it interesting. He is really into what he teaches, and in class, participation and discussion are welcomed. The only thing is the absolutely huge group project required...it had me pulling out my hair all semester.

Dr. Raney is extremely knowledgeable on the subject matter. He teaches very well and speaks very well in front of a large class. I also learned a lot from the class. Just be careful because even if you learn a lot the course is still a whole lot harder than how other teachers teach it. Tests are somewhat difficult, be prepared to study hard!

I really enjoyed his lectures and learned so much from them. I also enjoyed the assignments as well. It's just that his tests are quite hard and don't always follow what he discusses in class. In turn I ended up getting an "F" because of that and I retook the course with another teacher and did a whole lot better.

Comment:

He's a great teacher if you actually go to class and take notes. Actually write down the stuff he elaborates on and study your notes until you've basically memorized them. THe class itself surrounds a history class format with how communications came about. Over all I thought he was very helpful and a great teacher. =)
