Worked extremely hard in this class to only receive a B-. A TON of readings which are confusing and hard unless you're knowledgeable about the middle east. He calls you out in class for not being prepared. 3 difficult in-class essays, a research paper, and presentation. He's a really harsh grader and rarely gives out A's

Enthusiastic and knowledgeable, however he has a hard time connecting with his students, and will not give above a B+ on your essays, which is most of your grade for the class. Does not use ilearn which is inconvenient, and is not helpful one on one. You'll learn a lot in this class if you pay attention but you probably won't have a good time.

Dr. Arslanian is not the easiest professor I have had but I thoroughly enjoyed taking him. I enjoyed his humor and insight. We were assigned readings for every class. If you do the reading and pay attention in class you will be fine.

This class was super tough for a 101history course but ended up being my favorite by the end. He's secretly chill and funny, but is a tough grader and will call you out for not being prepared. No slides, just lectures with lots of discussion explaining the readings. 3 in class essays and 1 research paper (8 pages). Take him if you want to learn.

He's a nice guy but the class is a lot of work. You have long reading after most classes that you have to take notes for but even then it's hard to understand. He does his best to try to explain it to you but participation counts so make sure to speak up.

He is a tough grader, wants you to be in present in class. You will have to read a lot. I personally would not suggest this professor; all exams are essays and there is one presentation & essay of your choice. Don't take this course if you don't have any interest in the middle east. Also, no matter how much you write he won't give you more than a B

If you have zero interest in the middle east /prior knowledge of the middle east avoid taking his class. He grades as if you were born in Lebanon like him and does not help you. If you ask for help he will give you a paper that got an A and says "Do this." I put in so much work for this class and it was my lowest grade. Every exam is an essay

I couldn't understand what he was saying half the time. The readings are long, boring and confusing. Didn't learn anything about the middle east. Tests are essays. He grades them fairly.

Arslanian is the smartest professor I've had so far. Yes there is alot of reading, but if you have some basic knowledge on the topic then you're set for class. He is very funny, laughs at his own jokes, at times condescending, he will rip apart your paper and exams, but overall he is a great teacher. You WILL learn from this class and from him.

Arslanian was very knowledgable about the middle east, but over qualified. He is a very tough grader and when you ask him for help he just makes you read an A paper and doesnt tell you how to make your test better. I would NOT recommend him. It was very tough for this to be a 101 class. A lot of reading! Takehistory with someone else.

Never rated anyone before, but I felt I should add my voice on behalf of this professor. Great person. Extremely knowledgeable. Learned more in his class than almost any other class I've had. Changed my perception on the Middle East. Made me very interested where I thought I wouldn't be. In the end, you'll remember the class, not the grade.

Solid Professor. Loves his own jokes but cares for the students. Assigns tons of reading but if you come to class with basic knowledge on the topic each day you can get by. Gives you test questions before the test. Don't know why everyone knocks him. If you show up and study for the tests you should be looking at a B or A.

This teacher is oblivious to any students opinion. do not take him. he is way overqualified to be a teacher. Therefore, takes it out on his students by being a tough grader and imposing whatever view he has as the right view.

Professor Arslanian, is knowledgeable in his study but fails to understand his students. To say he is a tough grader would be an understatement.I STRONGLY advise anyone who has to take a history course to seek another professor. He will negatively impact your GPA even if you are an A student in other classes.

Had Dr. A as a prof waaay back at St. Olaf college...one of my absolute favorite profs of all time. All these whiny, complaining little students who think his class is hard--I have news for you: it's college! Wake up--he's amazing, a treasure trove of knowledge and I learned mountains of information from him. He's the best.

Very hard on students and favors some more than others. Expects every student to view the materials through his eyes/as he views things. Classes are dry, group collaborations are pointless. Do Not Take Him .
