This is a nice woman. Like, really kind and caring.... but the class is beyond boring and she does nothing by way of inquiry or provocation to engage us. Its torturous at times to sit through. Did I say shes nice? She is. I feel bad for being honest because of it.

She cares so much about her students and gives great topics to discuss in class. Main issue is that students today in society do not appreciate Music History like in the old years and she may need to change up to the current student standards. Overall, I strongly recommend speaking to her after class for extra help.

She is a wonderful, sweet, and kind person but she babies her students and doesn't cover much material at all. Once she noted that she's taught this course in a 3 week summer session. Kind of scares me how she takes a whole semester to teach as much information as she can cover in a 3 week course. She needs to raise her expectations and cover more.

Very clear about expectations. Rambles a ton, but she has great ideas (if you can get past the verbal fluff). She assumes the best about everyone and is very accommodating, more than most people deserve. She's quite a flutist and the lessons were great. She's SUCH a stickler for details, & I feel like I learned more history in there than in class.

She's a sweet lady and you'll have to deal with her a lot at the university. She's nice, very accomodating. great flute player and flute teacher, and she likes music history but is a little stale at teaching. No class involvement, very routine. But you get through it, and a year later I love music history stuff.

First off she is the furthest thing from hot. Second she will teach the text book, history, basic knowledge. However, she has no interesting personal experiences to share and/or anything interesting to say about her subject. I would suggest finding someone more interesting to learn from since you can just look up factual information.

Very clear on her expectations. Keep good notes, use the anthology. Do what she says and you'll do fine. One significant paper. I thought Dr. Demsey made the subject very interesting, and was entertaining, even funny at times. Open your mind to the material and you may find it more interesting than you expected.

Sometimes sections or parts of the class can get boring but not everything.Most classes can get boring at some point.She does a good job at explaining everything. Very clear on what she wants.Very knowledgeable.Willing to give her personal time to help ANY student.

Now, I have not have Dr. D for anything but flute, but I'm really shocked at the ratings given to her. She has been nothing but pleasant, helpful and generous with her time when it comes to my flute lessons. I have very few, if any complaints about her.

I really really liked this class, and by like I mean hate. She is horrible and looks kinda weird. She also uses unnecessary hand gestures. Definitely way to enthusiastic about early music which in my opinion is the stupidest thing you could ever get excited for when it comes to western music.

I could go on and on about my disappointment with this professor, but as the other people said you will have to take her music history classes if you're a music major - sorry! The class was not difficult but was a LOT of busy work. The flute lessons were boring and she missed half of them one year (due to illness, but still frustrating).

There are no words... except Gregorian Chant (aka the only thing you'll talk about the whole first semester of Music History). She definitely does not know how to effectively teach a college class. Sadly, she cannot be avoided so suck it up.

As a person, she is very cordial and congenial. As a professor, she is completely different. Not that she's arrogant or anything, but she is definitely not the best of teachers!She lulls you to sleep just with the tonality of her voice! The sad part is: you have to take her (the only Mus.his.prof.)
