If you don't like to speak in class,dont take this class with her. If she doesn't get volunteers she will hand pick you and you have to go to the board. I would take this class with her before I would with Grossman or O'Brien. Her special Homework is easy, oh- total 80's!

If you are not a math major, your in trouble. She goes so fast throughthe material that you can't keep up. She doesn't allow for sufficient time for questions. She thinks that just because she gets it, everyone else should and she makes you feel stupid if you don't get it.

She is not nice at all! She is supposed to be the best teacher of this class though. The "project" is a nightmare and very time consuming. Her tests are pretty bad too. Participate even though she is rude, I think it helps your grade. She's so eighties...you will feel bad for her. Office hours aren't even that helpful.

she is mean! take this class if you don't want to feel good about yourself. seriously... every single person who answers a question, she makes them feel stupid. she talks down to everybody. no wonder she isn't married or has any friends, shes just real mean and her tests are hard. she put a question on there that was very inappropriate on the test.

Content is super easy, but she only grades on 2 quizes, 2 tests, group project which is impossibly hard and a final. Good luck, shes better than the other teachers that subbed for her though, just not easy to approach with questions, sit back and be quiet and you should be ok.

2 good points were made in the previous statements. 1) she definetly needs a husband so she doesnt take this class so seriously. 2)flock of seguls went out 20 years ago so its definetly time to get over the eighties. Would not recommend taking it at oakland.

If you're not good at math, the class is hard. SHe tells you whats EXACTLY on tests/quizzes. If you do the homework, you'll pass the tests. when shes' teaching, she talks down to you like you're stupid. I was afraid to ask questions because of her reaction.

I went by her office to pick up an exam, she was talking to a coworker, so I waited (for 10 min.), the coworker left, I went in & she held her little clock in my face & asked what time her office hrs ended,(I was a minute late). She also needs to get over the 80's!! They're over!!

Benken was alright- very boring if you are not a math major. Made an hour long class into 2.5 hours. Project was not too bad- going to her office hours does NOT get you an A. Tests were not too bad- do the homework. Hint: Look at her previous exams!!

Professor Benken is a tough teacher, but she was always willing to help. The "project" is really hard, take advantage of office hours she will really help you. Tests and quizzes are also hard--Study. Participate also, she keeps track of who doesn't then she will pick on you!

Benken was alright. Her tests are tough and she expects you to articulate your answers in clear math terms which is hard. So she will grade you down if you are not clear enough. She expects a lot so if you work hard and do your homework you will do well in the class.

Dr. Benken was cool. To ease the tension on the day of our final exam, she played "It's a Beautiful Day" by U2. The group project is tough, but taking her class is worth it.She has a great sense of humor.(Ask her what she thinks of Steven Tyler!)
