Took this professor during the Spring of 2017. I don't recommend her for a professor. She may be strict, a tough grader and give you lots of homework - be it reading or be it written assignments, but she's not one who gives positive feedback, easily.

Comment:

Prof Cruz is hands down one of the best professors I've encountered in the recent years. She's funny and super passionate about teaching. She understands there are things going on outside of the classroom and will help you succeed. Attendance is mandatory but as long as you show up, read the homework assignments, and try your best you'll do great.

She doesnt allow redos on papers, doesnt accept late/missing work, doesnt allow make ups for a failed test or assignment. Everything in the class is AS IS. She isnt clear on her grading and has ridiculous strict criteria for passing on the essays. I wouldnt recommend taking her. And she is strict on phones and stays on top of it.

I took Professor Cruz for English 1301 in Fall of 2017 and retook her for English 1302 in Spring of 2018.... Many people complain about her hard way of grading, however she is very clear on what she expects. She does NOT baby you and does not tolerate you if your lazy. Just pay attention and take notes! You will love her if you just put effort.

Do you like a professor who does not give you rubrics? Do you like a professor that makes you feel like everything you do is wrong? This Professor doesn't allow laptops in her classroom. She explains what is expected of essays and she usually makes sure there are no surprises for the final exam. In 1302 she gave LOTS of pop quizzes. If you keep up with the calendar from her syllabus you should be fine. She offers help on essays during her office hours and will work with you.

This professor is very strict regarding papers and how she expects them to be like. She had my class turn in a final draft paper and gave us a pop quiz the same day while we were all more focused on the paper. Only 5 out of the whole class read the stories and the other majority got zeros on the quizzes.

She is not very understanding on why you did not show up to her class. She will make you feel dumb when taking notes and threaten to kick you out if you are on your phone. She gets mad very easily and will take points off your essay for the dumbest reasons.

I absolutely loved Professor, but unfortunately many of my classmates did not. She is a tough grader but she always is clear with what she expects from you. She will meet with you about all of your essays and tells you what to do to improve! I recommend her!

If you miss a class, you might as well have started world war three. Does not take into account students' situations. Kicks people out of class for being on their phones, even if it is an emergency. Horrible communication about grades throughout the semester.

She's pretty rude sometimes and will either take it out on one individual or the entire class and give rude looks. Likes to give her personal opinion on controversial topics. Also you have to give an oral presentation at the end of the semester, not sure if other professors do that but if you have a fear of public speaking this is just a warning.

Not a hard class as long as you do the homework and read the material she assigns. She can be strict about assignments but she has a passion for teaching and will help you with you papers. I hate writing papers but I enjoyed her class and made writing papers less painful.

She's very passionate about what she teaches. 3 essays for the whole year: Narrative, Descriptive and a Persuasive Research Paper with Speech included. Very easy class if you take the time to follow directions. She's been teaching for over 10+ years and helps you write great papers which lay down the outline for other classes which require writing.

Professor Cruz is a very well-educated woman who wants the best from her students. She gives clear notes and is very stern when it comes to assignments. Throughout the course, there was only 3-4 essays, and the final essay. Rarely used the book, except for notes that she would talk and go over the next day. Would most definitely take again!

She was an awesome professor! Shows you the proper way to write an essay and helps a lot when it comes to rough draft essays so you can get a better grade on the final essay. If you are not paying attention or acting a fool she will call you out, but that is something you bring upon yourself. I would highly recommend taking her, you will learn!

However, the way she treated other class mates of mine was unbelievably unprofessional (she said 'you people' to a kid who was a different religion than her).
