She is very vague in her instructions and often she is simply wrong. She grades on things like grammar in the comments (seriously, wtf?) and often the assignments include rote busywork for no real reason (in the most recent one, she insisted on 12 or more drawings when fewer would have done, and detailed intros).

As many of the questions are subjective, she isn't fair in grading. For similar answers students turned in, she gives u different points. No point for trying at all, u must be perfect. stay away

Barb is a wonderful teacher! I have never felt confident in math and she did everything she could to help me. She was always willing to meet with me and go over things I didn't understand. I highly recommend her! She and a few other teachers collaborated and wrote a textbook to cut the cost for the students. Our textbook was only $15!! So awesome!!

CSC142 is Not an Easy class by any means. Online only makes it worse. Hw is tough but not impossible. Exams are also tough but not impossible. Overall consider it a big achievement if u can even break a B , 3.0 in her Online class. Absolutely avoid taking any CS class online for that matter. Quiz's can be vague which leads to more frustration.

Comment:

Barbara made a big impact on me and others as she introduced us to programming. It was not easy. Up to the end, I spent more hours on this class than any other. With more experience it started to make more sense. ASK QUESTIONS! Programming is not my major but I will need it a bit. Also, she will throw in fun musical and visual stuff if you ask.

Barbara Goldner is a fantastic professor. You have to study and work hard, but if you are willing to put in the time, you will do well. She is very clear and available to students for help. I went by her office hours a few times and always came away with my questions answered. She is not an easy grader, but if you study hard you'll do very well.

An unreal amount of work for a 5-credit class, someone described it as teach yourself Python and pay the college so you can get the college credit for it. Difficult to get answers, examples too simple, and instructor dismissive of students who did not grasp the concepts immediately. Poor materials provided as substitute for lectures - avoid.

Avoid her class if your major is computer science. She is really helpful and good at teaching. The only bad thing is that she will tell you that you did a good job on your homework give you a 70% grade. If you are not going to spend a lots of time on the class, avoid her.

I liked working with her online. She was very responsive and I thought her assignments were appropriately difficult. She let me have a little extra exam time when an injury slowed me down. Just do the work as assigned and you'll do great!

Great teacher. Follows the book well and has her own notes to read online which are super helpful. You could practically not go to class and just read the notes online! She got really picky about grading assignments as the term progressed. Very pleased with this teacher and the experience. Tests are not too difficult but do test your vocab a lot.

Barbara provides very good feed back on online forums. Her assignments are difficult, but will help you become a great programmer. I visited her during office hours once, and she was great at taking apart my program. She's picky about homeworks and Exams, but I learned a lot!
