Professor Held is tough but honestly I thought she was awesome. People complain about how you have to do everything exactly her way but if you listen & read what she gives you it's very easy to give her what she wants. I liked personality a lot and Professor Held is one of the most interesting people I've ever met.

She is not a good teacher. She tends to focus on the most insignificant details and class tends to be an incomprehensible and structureless mess. I have never thoroughly been so bored and so turned off of an entire subject by a professor. Worst professor I have had in college.

EXCELLENT PROFESSOR - the best I had at Bowdoin - I came back for 3 classes and an independent study after Psych 101. People think she's "mean" because she expects a lot from students, and crying or having one's parents threaten to sue her will not sway her opinion of one's work and will not cause her to change one's grade.

Classes were interesting and engaging, readings were often tedious but not usually unreasonably long. However, grades are determined pretty much based on quiz scores and final paper alone. So if you mess up on the final paper you have messed up on 50% of your grade. Hence my solid B+/A- became a B- when final grades came out.

She is not mean or evil as many people think (for reasons I am unsure of). She is, however, very specific about how things should be done. I have learned more from this class than any other I have taken here and she is extremely intelligent and interesting, plus at least on laugh is guaranteed per class.

she has a very peculiar teaching style, but is by no means a "mean" professor. i think people might be uncomfortable with such a regimented style of learning, but i really enjoy this class. we read really great primary articles for class and she is consistent clear and interesting. youll learn a lot

Treats us like HS students, rants about nature and the tyranny of the positive attitude. I didn't learn much about Personality theory, and she forced us to learn & present info in a very specific manner that didn't measure how much I knew or understood. Didn't feel she cared about her students.

Psych 101 was a nightmare due to the exam structure - each faculty member didn't take exam length into account. Despite that, Dr. Held was an enjoyable instructor. Kvetch her while you can.
