Definitely worth your while if you plan on getting a job in the magazine editing world! Her insight into the business is priceless and she really knows what she's talking about. Not an easy A, but I would recommend to all who truly want to be editors. Great experience and really pushes you to get yourself out there! Don't be scared by reputation!

Professor Reed is an acquired taste: I hated her in the beginning but grew to love her in the end. She is the only one who teaches Magazine Writing, and though she's very critical in how she grades, she knows what she's talking about.

totally not worth the time and frustration... she makes you go interview magazine editors for your term paper, and the interviews were insanely difficult to get. she's pretty nice outside of class, and will give you extensions, but she's a ridiculously hard grader. Definitely don't take this class

Dr. Reed is willing to help students and extend deadlines but other than that, her magazine class is possibly one of the most tedious and ridiculous classes ever. I withdrew from the class (as did others) because I couldn't keep up with the work. At times, we were working on 3 assignments at once. She really is a nice lady but her class is horrible

I'm pretty sure that dr. reed is satan. the concept of the class is interesting and very discussion oriented but she looks at you like you're stupid if you disagree with her. was very UNFAIR in grading, and commented "laughable" to my friend's answer on an exam essay. oh yea and she's deaf. other than that she's awesome!!!!!!

It's a lot of work, but she's fair. She has the experience, so if you want to learn, you have to put up with her. The work load she gives makes it seem like she thinks this is your only class. Tough to get a "A" in the course, but she's very knowledgeable about the subject.

I made the mistake of dropping a class to take this, and I ended up withdrawing. Barbara Reed is, quite frankly, a major b**ch. She reminds me of the Weakest Link host. The workload was ridiculous as well. I'd go with the suggestion of getting a magazine internship instead, and also, take Media Ethics with Frankel.
