She is a very sweet lady! She was sincere and got to know each of her students. She was random and sometimes too open, but you get used to it. She has so much knowledge and life experience that it is valuable and enjoyable to get to know her.

There is more to her teaching than just her lectures. Yes she does tend to tell stories that don't relate a lot to what we're talking about. HOWEVER, she legitimately care about how students are doing in the class. IF you actually make an effort to talk to her I guarantee it'll be worth your time. Students that don't like her, don't fully know her

Even though she criticizes the statistical, scientific approach, she helped me understand how sometimes you have to look at behavior using intuition rather than statistics as a tool. The psych department, having recently changed its name to "psychological science", focuses too much on statistics They deleted the counseling psych course a while ago

Comment:

Barbara has a TON of experience and knows her subject. She is a little scatterbrained and crazy, but very knowledgeable, entertaining and helpful on her subject. She loves talking with students and is a great resource for learning outside class as well. Personality Psych is a very easy course if you either do the readings or show up to class

She is easily lead off course by her own stories and she often repeats useless information while only say important facts once or twice. For a clinical minded studented she would be a good teacher and advisor but the research minded one beware she openly states her contempt for you and says you don't understand clincal psych.

Comment:

Simpson has a good heart for a clinical psychologist, but she is not a teacher. She cannot hold focus in a lecture for more than 2 minutes. I am not joking. She has the strangest tests because the info on them is different than what she tells you in class. I really wanted to learn this subject, but this class was not enjoyable.

Comment:

Simpson tends to go off on tangents and forget what she was talking about. She also turns on movie clips in class but talks through them. She talks pretty quietly, too, so it can be hard to understand her, especially when it seems like she's almost talking to herself. Most of the time I felt like attending class wasn't even necessary.

If you step back to appreciate it, she's hilarious. Not so funny while you're trying to learn from her, but if you learn the material and come through the class ok, she's one of those "different" teachers you appreciate later

Lectures can be random and her soft voice will sometimes make you sleepy, but she tries to break up her lectures with other activities or discussions to keep your attention. A very intelligent lady who is more than willing to help you if you have questions or just want to talk.

She is a horrible professor. She isn't clear on any points from the book. If anything she is more confusing. There is too much material and she isn't very good at telling you what you need to know. Made the subject easy to relate to, offered ample make up opp'ties and understood when family crisis altered attendance to class. A little nutty, but that just added to teh charm of the class.
